Ground tarp - especially useful during the winter when you have to put on chains (which you should have in the trunk, too.)
Tow rope
Shovel - very useful during the winter
Consider a SPOT satellite GPS emergency beacon rather than a cell phone (or similar).
Water, possibly power bars, etc.
