The key to spacers is to have them:
1. Clear the oem Hubcentric lip
2. If they are larger than 10mm then they should have a hub centric lip themselves . I have learned that most of the later model BMW E46+ do not like a 12mm spacer because the rear oem hubcentric lip is longer now. So it is best to run a 15mm+ spacer
3. Be sure to get quality bolts or wheel studs
4. Wheel studs make wheel changes so much easier!

I've done many F30s with 12mm front and 15mm rear and it seems to a very popular set up.
