What tires?
On my wifes car (asymetrical all-seasons)
I rotate front to rear, then left to right.
On my car (directional summer tires)
I only rotate front to rear.
Crossing tires is ideal but a headache to do without a lift, so I don't do it. Just doing f/r and l/r every 5k has treated me well.
