First, thank you to everyone for all the work and information provided in this thread.
I have a 2015 F31 N20. It is my understanding that if the key from the nearest build date doesn't work (which unfortunately, it doesn't), that I will need to obtain the DE file from my car. The only method I have been able to find is by using E-SYS. A good write-up for it found here:

What I am wondering is this, is there a way to retrieve the DE file any other way that doesn't require the purchase of the E-NET cable and using E-SYS? If not, I'll purchase the cable and have a go with E-SYS.
