Ok, but either way, the badge has been dormant so there is still no immediate need for the new one to outperform the old model. It does not succeed that defunct model, it succeeds the 328i.

Others have already expressed it very eloquently: class leading power is not generally BMW's business plan. Class leading dynamics and overall performance are.
I suspect we'll get ~265hp for the 330i and ~330hp for the 340i - a bump of roughly 10%. There is still the possibility of an M340i later with more power, or they might save that for the coupe, convertible, Gran Coupe.
