Quick definition
Most common type of octane rating worldwide is the Research Octane Number (RON).
Another type of octane rating is called Motor Octane Number (MON).
Just to show its individuality ours is called Anti Knock Index (AKI)
AKI is (RON + Mon)/2.
Don't ask, have no idea why we do it that way.
But the end result is our numbers on the pump officially (AKI) Anti Knock Index, but sometimes called Pump Octane Number (PON), just to make it more confusing, will always be lower then the straight RON octane number for the same gas.
Lived in England for a time so got used to both systems.
