So I asked the shop foreman at my preferred dealership this exact question. The dealership hosts a lot of the BMW CCA DIY events for the chapter.

His answer was that the car should only have 1 water pump despite RealOEM calling one of the water pumps as "auxiliary". I think the RealOEM naming convention may be a bit confusing...

If you look at the parts diagram from getBMWparts, it seems to indicate that the car either has the (one) water pump for the M Sport package or it has it for the non-M Sport package.

This would be consistent with the answer the shop foreman provided.
Even they call it an aux water pump (For my vehicle).

"Auxiliary Pump 2014-16, W/M PACKAGE".

I'm going to be under my car sometime within the next week. I'll look for it.

And another thing, the connections on the AUX WP are too small to push coolant for the engine itself AND it appears small enough to be suspended rather than bolted to a bracket.

90 percent certain it's a second WP.
