Yeah, it really does put it in neutral if the engine stalls. The car can control the 8AT gear shifter position itself.

If the car is in drive and you stop the engine, the car automatically puts the trans in park.

Also, if you are in DS mode and stop the engine, the car will physically push the shifter back to the right automatically.

On a stall, the shift from drive to neutral does not move the shifter and no sound is made, so you have to look (instrument panel or shift handle) to see that the trans was changed to neutral.
