edit - or, since I just realised I mistakenly installed Europe East instead of West, I could try installing the correct maps for where I live. I expect it'll be much more useful after that...another long drive it is!

most probable this is your issue. just install West over East and will be good !
no need to drive, map can be installed while stanstill
