I'm fairly sure that staggered wheels is a factory option for xDrive cars. But you should do what makes you feel comfortable. Also, my opinion is that 397 wheels look great, but since they're so prevalent, they're not very special.
If you can, be patient and someone will be selling their 397 take-offs with good tires.
