NBT EVO behind steel plate security anti theft - How to remove??
Hi all,
I've tried to find an answer to this but couldn't find any solutions hence the post. - if this has been answered elsewhere, i'd appricate a nudge/link to the right direction Today I attempted to get at the back of my headunit (NBT Evo ID6) to install a WiFi antenna. Every guide i've seen to do this showed that it's a pretty simple job, but in this case it certainly was not. ![]() After accessing the front of the headunit, it cannot be released as it is stuck behind a steel plate (i can only assume it is for anti-theft). Please see the photos attached. The right side is particularly the PITA. I have removed the screws using security bits, but the right side seems to be bolted in pretty good. I removed the glovebox to get better access and the picture shows the smooth bolt which seems to be non-removable. Does anybody have any advice to get the headunit removed? My thanks in advance. |

They’re non-standard, I’ve never seen those plates before. Likely fitted by a previous owner as anti theft measure. I suspect you’ll have to drill the bolts out. Even that looks quite awkward because of the angle etc.
Hopefully someone has an easier solution but I can’t see any other way. |

That looks to me to be the inserted end of the bolt, not the bolt head. Is the blue circled head that of the bolt? The lack of a slot indicates that's a carriage bolt. If those are the ends of the same bolt the cone shaped nut is probably the problem. I'd get that off with small vice grip pliers.

Anti theft bolts are usually easiest to remove with a center punch, tap a mark into it then start to work it loose by tapping sideways.

Hi all, thanks for confirming all of your suspicions.
Indeed not OEM and in fairness but it is pretty effective. I've got a few different ways to go about the job. Really appreciate the suggestions. VonKasta I'm going to first try tapping and turning as this as it seems the least invasive and I could even reuse this anti-theft measure with a new nut. Billfitz Indeed, I think it's a carriage bolt. If the tapping doesn't work then I'll try to dremel some flat spots onto the conical nut to get some purchase for a set of needle nose pliers. Failing that, I'll brute force it as Zheez suggested with a few drill bits and some cutting oil. schernov I'm in the Netherlands, and Kudos to the previous owner, this HU isn't going anywhere in a hurry. As a man on a mission, I'll report back and hopefully a fully installed WiFi antenna. Cheers all! |

Update:
Finally, I had to drill it out. The two anti-theft plates are quite robust, and bloody effective. I might do a deep dive on these, such as dimensions, mounting and other hardware, in case some one wants to replicate the protection project. Thanks again all, for your input and suggestions. |

Hi there, am very sorry to hear about that.
I took the plate off to install a wifi adapter, and then my hu was also stolen. I am based in the Netherlands and the company that makes the plate is called Navirem.nl - They have a basic website but likely only deal with dealers and car audio installers. The installation is also pretty involved so I would suggest going to a professional, who can do the install while also carrying out the repair. Hope that helps |

Out of interest did you have the stickers on the windows as a deterrent? I’ve emailed them to see if they can supply or have anyone that installs in the UK. Seems crazy they’re the only ones making them when it’s a problem that plagues the world |
