Pure 500 Suggestions
Hi all, my car will be getting its front subframe dropped soon for the oil pan gasket service, I currently have a 2015 435i N55 xDrive. (EWG) Being in CA, getting a HPFP would be a total bitch to install and uninstall every year, would a Pure 500 turbo be worth it? Obviously, I'd love a PS2, but I don't see myself getting a HPFP upgrade any time soon and given a HPFP is what is needed to max out the PS2, I don't necessarily see the point of getting a turbo that large. I've already got a downpipe, intercooler, intake, and charge pipe.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the issue in CA is that they plug in to your OBD and see that a non-BMW HPFP has been installed. On the N55 the HPFP is located under the intake manifold. It would take someone very knowledgeable to try to see bits of it under there with a flashlight

Dropping an XDrive oilpan is expensive because the driveshaft goes through the middle of the oilpan. There are several installations that overlap tremendously with that labor. Here are the ones that I’d consider doing at the same time. 1) Upgrading rod bearings to VAC coated bearings. Big insurance policy against oil starvation damage later. https://store.vacmotorsports.com/mob...s55-p4845.aspx 2) Upgrade the front sway bar to an H&R 28mm to reduce body roll. Car corners flatter. See photo. H&R part number for front sway bar for your car should be 70878-3. Note: Replacing rear sway bar is easier. Your stock rear bar is probably 12mm. After getting used to new front bar, you may want to upgrade rear bar to 15mm BMW bar, 16mm Eibach or 17mm KC Design. The 20mm H&R bar is a bit too heavy and in aggressive driving can cause some rear wheel lift, making the rear tire patch smaller. 3) Replace engine mounts. Often they have compressed to half their original thickness. 4) Pure500 turbo upgrade Hope this helps. |

for smog purposes, I would have to uninstall the HPFP every two years in order to maintain my registration and pass CARB inspections. Unless the B58TU pump can be run on the stock tune (as tunes fail now) I don't want to be bothered with taking off my intake manifold every two years.

Thank you for this wealth of information!!! This is incredible!! I think I'm going to hold off on rod bearings at least for the time being as I just got a blackstone labs report that came back with flying colors! |

The 2020 U.S. Census recorded just over 39.5 million Californians, but as of 2023, that number has fallen by 1.3% to just over 39 million. Meanwhile, Texas, the second-most populous state, has grown to more than 29 million people, closing the gap with California to below 10 million.

There are plenty worse than California....and it'd take a lot for me to move to Texas. I very much enjoy my power and not trying to be on my own power grid

Yes, come to Texas and be like one of the other 10 million clowns ripping around my residential neighborhood all hours of the day with roaring catless exhaust because we don't care about emissions at all. And you too can enjoy mile after mile of achingly dull flat roads. It sucks here and you're hours from anywhere fun in a car. Or a beach, or a mountain or any other scenic view

Let the guys that want to not care about emissions move to Texas, and the ones that want to be in a communist state, move to California |

Or attack it. Who cares. I've spent enough time in both places to know the whole argument is silly. Both have their own problems and pluses and minuses. Both are opposite extreme ends of the political spectrum, neither of which is ideal.

I think political ideology is completely arbitrary and the line drawn are purposely divisive, being used as a tool to keep the population focused on their peers instead of the bigger issues .
So that’s why I’m not defending anything - California does suck for Car enthusiasts, and a lot of the rules have nothing to do with emissions. It’s simply a way to generate revenue and influence people’s buying decisions. |
