Stage 1 N55 turbo upgrade? What's the company?
I remember seeing a Stage 1 turbo upgrade basically a modified stock turbo for the N55 which will work on the F30 335i. What company was this again? And does anyone have this turbo installed?

The Turbo cannot be replaced. Its part of the exhaust manifold. What they need to do is remove the manifold and turbo, open it up, swap the guts and then put the whole assembly back on.... Unless one of the companies sells the whole assembly with the guts already changed, which would make the swap a whole lot easier and cheaper.

The turbo and manifold is one piece. You can't change one without changing the other. Changing the wheel without removing it from the motor is stupid and is asking for trouble. Turbos have very tight tolerances and any dirt in there will kill it in a hurry. http://www.bimmerpost.com/goodiesfor...BIMMERPOST.pdf Page 68. Last edited by Mike_L; 12-14-2014 at 07:27 PM.. |

Swapping a turbo(s) on an N54 or N55 is a huge pain in the nuts and will def cost you $$$ to have it done right. Unless you're out of warranty or have money to burn. I would do every other mod short of tearing that thing out to make more power.

My car made 279 whp on dyno being stock + catback exhaust.
With sportcat, intake, meth kit and jb4 on stock turbos it did 339 whp. And with the pure turbo upgrade it went up to 393 whp. So a nice increase over stock and more importantly you can rev to 6500 rpm again. With stock turbos your power drops too much after 5500 rpm. |

Would seem so. I may just be really anal. Some guys will do head and cam swaps in the car too, where I'd rather pull the motor. Anything that can be done on a bench or engine stand, I'd rather do it there. I hate working in tight quarters in weird positions.

Surprised your turbo hasn't blown up yet, how long have you had that Vargas in there?
Rather, surprised it's not leaking oil. Last edited by Dosturbos; 12-16-2014 at 09:54 AM.. |
