AFE stage 2 intake dry filter vs stock intake with AFE dry filter
I recently bit the bullet and purchased an intake for the car after having run the afe filter for 3 years (cleaned it once a year). I wasn't going after any performance, but figured since I am making 500awhp now, a bit more flow couldn't hurt.
Install: very easy, takes 15 minutes and only requires a couple of basic hand tools. Looks: it looks OEM like and shouldn't cause problems with smog (asides from visual) Sound: The AFE filter on the stock intake really woke up turbo sound. I was hoping that it would be amplified with the stage 2 intake, but so far on initial impressions the sound is the same or perhaps even less. Power: when you're at 500whp; +/- 5-10 hp is not noticeable, so i dont notice a difference. Hindsight & recommendations: go with AFE dry filter on the stock intake and call it a day. It will give you the sound you want in addition to performance. |

I just installed the AFE dry flow drop in filter myself with the foam removed, BMS silicone inlet pipe and the aluminum turbo inlet pipe. I did notice a good sound increase, but nothing obnoxious. I had the BMC filter for a few days, but I didn't want a oiled filter even though it shouldn't be a problem out the box, but I have over oiled my filters in the past when I cleaned them out and found a bit of traces at the bottom of the air box. I also have the BMS coned intake if I ever do want to swap it around for more noise when I take a cruise through the canyons, but I'm trying to keep this car as comfortable as possible.
