This is the second BMW I have owned and the last one was over 15 years ago. I owned mostly Audi and Lexus in between that time. One thing I notice about driving my Audi and Lexus is that other Audi and Lexus owner are very Courteous toward other drivers with the same brand. I am not so sure with BMW drivers. So far, I have been cut off, honk at and given the bird by other BMW drivers, and it has only been two weeks. What is it with the BMW drivers, what ever happen to common courtesy toward your fellow BMW owners?

I actually used my horn once since I got the car. It was at a police officer.

Noticed the same thing, I was a audi/VW guy before my F30 and everyone was always polite, showed love, and was pumped to see another sick car from 'their' brand... In my BMW all Ive had is idiots who either give me the jealous look or try to cut me off to prove their bmw is still relevant... really?!

Do you happen to have a Red Sox license plate frame? That might be the problem!

I'm in a VW right now, and it's amazing how many fellow GTI owners will wave or acknowledge your car when you see each other on the road. Maybe some people think it's stupid, but I think it's kind of cool and enjoy the camaraderie. I was hoping something similar happens amongst BMW owners but perhaps not.

I usually get other BMW drivers cutting me off or pulling out in front of me because they know I can stop better than most cars on the road

Ha! I've had to honk at a police officer before when coming to a mini roundabout! He was on the left so I have right of way and was just entering it when he didn't look my way and just pulled out in his shitty little diesel Astra! Plonker...
If I was in any car lesser than my 330d, such as this MINGING rental Insignia, I probably wouldn't have stopped and hit him! Needless to say, he mouthed "sorry"! Knob.

It's Audi drivers over here that are the worst. BMW to BMW drivers are often very courteous to each other. Especially the "chrome grilled" (6cyl upwards) E90 community as it infers you have more of an interest in cars and driving. That said, the 320d folks are usually a nice bunch!
Guys in Audi's though - absolute bellends!

I haven't had any run-ins with other BMW drivers. I try to be courteous to everyone unless they are being an ass.

most people i see in bmws only drive one because it says bmw on it. no one ever looks over to check out my car, but i always check out theirs. had 2 guys give me thumbs up though.

No I dont have a Red Sox plate, the last time I had one, my windows got broken down at NYC.

I'm as courteous as I can stand to all drivers....until they do something that pisses me off...I don't care what brand of car they are driving. An asshat is an asshat if he's in a Honda or a Ferrari.

I am surprised to read that Audi and Lexus drivers salute each other...

Lexus drivers being courteous to each other, i can believe that...
Because most of those drivers are old and from another generation, they drive slow enough to tip down their hats to other drivers...
But i am most surprise they Lexus drivers would have any sense of commadaraderie... because i dont think any of them see their cars as anything other than upscale appliances...

Audi drivers saluting each other, i never thought about it...but i can believe that could happen... considering the fact that this brand has transformed itself from an unknown germany brand to this Apple, clean savy looking cool company from which its products are well regarded among the young educated professional population... So for those owners to salute each other is a recognition and an acknowledgement each other, all the while stroking their ego.

VW GTI owners saluting each other is similar to motorcyclists greeting each other accross freeways, or flashing each other.... this, i believe is the true sense of camaraderie among automobilists!

As for BMW drivers... i can only speak for myself:
i try to have fun with other BMW drivers... give the opportunity to push our car a little bit... because after all, they are made for joy and fun...
The correct word is : being playful with each other...

but/so i understand my playful behavior could/might be misinterpreted for hostile/aggressive/crazy/pushy/pompous/rude/or snobby character if the person driving the other bimmer only bought the car for its status symbol/badge, or has no clue of what those car are made for, or has no interest other than use the bimmer as an appliance.

oh well, too bad if we can't have a bit of joy/fun in our bimmers...

I hope some of bimmer drivers loosen up a bit.. have a little fun, but keep it safe... we dont have to become prius drivers...

Driving in NYC there's not much courteous no matter what cars you drive.

I get honk, cut all the time by all kinds of brands and I do the same to others.

I agree with you about Audi drivers in recent years though - unbelievable.

After a lot of years driving, I have become super courteous and always assume people are going to cut me up. That way you stay in control and avoid the red mist...even when they do cut you up!

I think this is the biggest problem really.. BMW is a status symbol for oh so many people.. I'm betting it's the same with MB, I never see those drivers greet each other either.

As for those who might greet or look at your car, it's often those who do a bit of modding to their Bimmers. If the other BMW is standard, chances are likely they wont greet you or look at you at all.

And, there's also another thing going on.. if I look here on this island, it is as almost everyone can afford a Bimmer these days. That's not necessarily a bad thing (although you do lose some exclusivity) but it does bring a lot more less-enthusiastic drivers to the brand and that probably has something to do with it as well.
