BMW 330e Hybrid xHP DIY and Review

Hi all,

Just sharing a video of xHP Installation on F30 BMW 330e B48 Hybrid.

Pros:
• Faster and smoother shifts. Very impressed on how smooth
stage 3 is. No need to switch to stage 1 or 2.
• Car feel like it is pulling harder as torque limit increased.
Note my car has a custom tune.
• The gear display is a very nice feature.
• True manual mode - ensure you shift as it does not upshift
automatically in this mode. Sounds good at rev limiter .

Cons:
• No throttle blips - the flywheel is very small so unable to hear any throttle blips
• No launch control - hybrid models does not have this feature in the TCU

Hopefully this helps others.

I flashed my 330e today. I went for stage 2. The shifts are smoother and the torque is now reaching a higher on the sports dials. I thought the shifts in drive would have been a bit quicker to be honest. I know I can go stage 3 but I prefer the behaviour of stage 2. The gear being shown in all modes is a nice touch.

Will installing this overwrite existing tuning maps like installing bootmod does?
I was pretty disappointed when i tried to add some bootmod features to my custom, tuned map, only for it to completely delete the tune and install a stock map.

Try stage 3, should be slightly quicker than stage 2.
Note you can also customize xHP to features but I find stage 3 was good enough.
I honestly didn't watch my sports display but I will dyno soon.

No xhp should not overwrite existing Engine tune.
I taught you had different custom tune and not BM3.
Did you switch? If so what are your reviews between previous and bm3?

Sorry, probably not making it clear. I had a custom tune made on a dyno by a local tuner before i got bootmod. After getting this custom tune, i just wanted to add some features from bootmod and have the option to read out the custom tune so i could reset to stock for service inspection and such.
Unfortunately bootmod deleted the tune when i connected it and reverted my car to stock.

I had my car tuned again after getting the downpipe at the same, local tuner.

My reviews are:
Bootmod: Very flexible and easy to use. Especially if you dont have access to a "real" dyno tuner. Its cool that you can add the features and such

Local dyno tuner: More power and specially designed for my car, local fuels (we have 100 octane in Denmark). He can also add burples and those things but its less flexible.

I would love to get the transmission tune, but i am just afraid that it also will delete my custom tune.

Did you dyno your car with BM3 then custom tune?
BM3 for 330e makes 351+whp 440+wft-lbs and there is a newer map making 361whp 474wft-lbs and this is on a low grade 91 oct fuel.
A custom tune should yield more if with right tuner.

You should be safe as xHP is TCU flash and should not tamper with your tune as far as I know.
I flashed and BM3 map was the same one (did not interfere with DME tune).

I flashed stage 3 this morning. Drove the car for an hour or so. Shifts were faster and I had no jerky gear changes. But I did experience one issue although it was intermittent. While in sport/auto and I was braking from 120/140 kph I noticed a very slight shutter. This also happened at a low speed. When I tried replicate this at both speeds it didn't happen. But I did have it on a few occasions. It'll like having slightly warped discs, which I don't.
I haven't experienced this with stage 2 or a stock tcu tune. Weird
I've added throttle blips, but at default settings. And torque limiter is set for sticky tyres . With a little adjustment for 1st and 2nd gear

Its a very experienced tuning company, who has been tuning cars for racing and street since 1984 and i have used them many times so im quite sure they tuned it pretty well.
I didnt get the BM3 tune dynoed but it felt less powerful and it was slower on the 0-100 kph.

Are you sure that BM3 says 361 whp on 91? That sounds a bit optimistic and would make a bit more sense if it was crank hp.

Very sure, see below dyno video and chart included in video.

I tried a very reputable tuner who did a custom tune with meth and made only 320whp at even higher boost and timing wont call any names.

Anyone else experience the slight shutter on occasion while running stage 3?

Hi I noticed this once. I informed xhp already of your experience and mines, they are working to try to replicate this.

In addition, there is a new version out 4.0.2934.
They mentioned the following:

Update contains faster shifts in higher rpms.

launch control does not work on the hybrid models they don't have this feature in the TCU

throttle blips are almost not hear-able because the flywheel is very small

Just download new app version and flash over with same version map.

Thanks for the update
I did make contact with them myself but I haven't got a reply as yet.
I'm running the same app version (latest) that you have. This is the app that I got the slight vibration with.
I'll be flashing the MG Flasher map again today after the latest app update. From the what's new description "Custom Code v5.4 significantly improves performance on F-series vehicles". Looking forward to seeing the improvement

Another question regarding this.

Besides faster shifts and such, is the shifting feel also improved?
I mean, when i press the paddle shift and to it actually shifts, feels like it takes a full second now. Like i have to plan the shift when im at full throttle, so i press the shifter at 5800 rpm and then it will shift at 6500 rpm.

Is this stock? Even my stock don't have such delay.
But with xhp stage 3 its faster.

I am planning to test with dragy and let you all know when I get some time and when my custom tune is finished.

@SRHosein
Are your Throttle blips settings set to default. Or have you moved the sliders?
I don't get blips as strong as that

Flashed stage 3 back onto the TCU now. After I finished I received a notification from the xHP app the there was an update available for ots maps to download. I downloaded the update and flashed again to stage 3. Hopefully it resolves the shutter

I just did stage 3 left everything to default.
I also tried turning it on and adjusting to 10% which felt more aggressive but still no throttle blips so I reverted.

I got the same, think they should actually update the comments to let us know what changed.
