KW V1 on F-31 Thump noise and height issue

Hey guys, well i recently installed kw v1's on my wagon and i have to say im a bit disappointed. The height is adjustable but the highest setting is a bit low for me. The front will still go higher but the rear is the problem according to the shop that installed them the height is at its limit and going anything higher would be unsafe. The car is just way too low for my taste and i have an issue with clearing stuff with the M-performance lip and side blades. But this is not my main concern the main concern is the noise they make.

The problem is with a noise they generate when you go over bumps, the front seems to make a thunk noise as if i was hitting the bump stops going over almost any imperfection or small pot hole on the road. Any body else experience this?

Some pics for height reference:

Wow you have a killer garage. Yes the rear adjustment on the KW is disappointing. They supply a short thread. You can call KW and get the extended ones that will raise it up more. Not sure why they supply one that is shorter than all the rest. For the clunking noise, if you have not had it back at the shop to look at I would take it. Mine made a clunking noise too and it was because they did not torque a control arm bolt properly and it worked its way loose. It should not be making any noises.

Your car looks awesome though as it is. Sometimes its a pain to be extra careful, but to me the looks is worth it.

Could you do me a favor and measure the distance from the ground to the fender front and rear? I would like to compare to the H&R springs on my F31. I have some K1's on the way and want them to be higher then my current set up. thanks

Thanks for the compliments man, im going to look into calling kw about the extended thread and will ask the mechanics to take a look at the control arm bolts. I know it looks awesome but its a hassle sometimes, specially when i have to tow my bike or when i am fully loaded up with gear.

I haven't had any of the same noises you mentioned after getting my V2s installed. I'd say have the shop recheck everything. My only noise comes from the front tires hitting the fender/bumper joint.

Please let us know when you hear back from KW with longer thread option.

~ currently i'm running the h&r sports on my wagon and they are too low for my taste and the front crashes on occasion due to the front oem shocks not being able to keep up with the low springs. there are very few options for us wagon guys.

i have been working with josh at tuner motorsports and i've arranged to place my order on monday for the v1's at a great price!
(3 weeks wait from k&w until they arrive).

i thought the change to the v1 kw's would solve my concerns but now after reading your post... i'm a bit concerned.

also come spring time i plan to replace the stock 18" with the same wheel design from the 550 m sport in a 19".

These are VMR V703's 19 inch wheels custom powdercoated gloss black. I cant remember the width but call vmr and ask them for fitment for the f3x.

Sorry for the late replies guys, i have been out of the country. Im calling kw later today to find out about the longer sleeve.

Update: Spoke to KW yesterday, the rep said that i might have a wrong kit. They sent me a tech sheet to fill out with part numbers and measurements and to send it back. They did say they could work out something with a longer sleeve. Going to take some measurements and numbers down today and send it back. The rep also mentioned that they will take care of any problems the kit might have, props to kw for their awesome customer service. Now i just hope if they send me a new kit that i can keep the one i have until the one they send me arrives so im not without my car.

yeah bro i feel you on this. got my V2 installed on my 328 sedan, the rear perch thread is too short, at the highest setting the clearance is only one finger. i drive my wife and kids around so that much clearance only result to fender scrub.

yeah KW can supply you perch with longer thread but they came together with the spring as a set.

my clearance from the ground to the front lip is less than my iphone 5. we have a lot of road humps here in malaysia so i get scrap on those pretty easily if i didnt go over them dead slow.

bump stops on the front suspension will go away soon, so is the dust cover.

The M-Sport lip is very low so having my suspension as it is right now is terrible. I scrape everywhere and even on my side skirts. Cant wait to get this sorted, i had ST's on my golf that are basically kw v1's and never had an issue raising it. The weird thing is that they supply the same part's for the diesel 4 cyl, diesel 6 cyl, and gas 4 and 6 cyl. I can imagine the diesel european 330d is a lot front heavier than the gas 4 banger. Thanks for the comments on the car and garage man.

Curious as to what they will do since they recently released the Street Comfort that doesn't drop as much (F 0.4-1.6", R 0.8-1.6", p/n: 180200AD) and if they'd source the perch from it and if the springs are different from the V1.

http://www.kw-store.com/products/kw-...omfort-68.html

I'm going to raise mine a bit next week. I've been getting the height adjusted with 1/2-2/3 full tank of gas, and sits fine then, but the car is often not that empty so looks like it sags in the rear.

I had the KW V1's installed today on my F31. I was running the H&R Sport Springs with stock suspension. My biggest issue was the ride quality and stress of driving a car that can't hit bumps or potholes. Going down the highway at 80+ mph fully loaded and you hit a dip and start bouncing for the next 100 yards is not safe. Thankfully I was not in the middle of a turn. Also with the H&R springs the rear was 1" lower than the front.

I agree the with the limited adjustability of the rear. I'm at the highest setting and the gap is a small finger. It is 3/4" higher the the H&R springs I removed but I would prefer to be another 1/2"-3/4" higher. Other than that I am really happy with the ride quality and firmness. After driving about 40 miles on a familiar route of mixed roads it's perfect.

Man i just drove my wifes 328d sedan with the M-sport package as well and the stock suspension feels firmer than the kw's. Im really disappointed with the v1's, if kw cant fix the height issue and do something about how soft they feel im going back to stock until we have another option for the wagon. My car is being dropped of monday to get measurements and part #'s for kw and hopefully i will hear something from them next week.
