Key fob cover that makes it difficult to accidentally press buttons?
I somehow wind up accidentally pressing the key fob buttons a lot in my pocket -- I'll be working around the garage, or will be in my office at work, and my trunk will fly open when I sit down or crouch. I basically never use the buttons on the fob, so I'd like to get some kind of cover for it that makes the buttons substantially harder to press without adding much bulk.
I've seen lots of key fob covers, but most of them either (a) don't do anything to restrict button presses, or (b) completely cover the key but look stupidly bulky and have carribeaner hooks or something hanging off them. I'm not a big guy, I wear somewhat tailored jeans, I have other stuff in my pockets...not a ton of room for bulky keys. I guess a sort of hard shell would be my ideal. |

I use the silicone ones on ebay. Thinnest protection I can find. I used to love the leather snap cases for the E46 keys, but since then the BMW ones are just way to bulky to be of any use, unless the key just sits in a drawer.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/FIT-FOR-BMW...19.m1438.l2649 And for the price, it costs you very little to try it. I thought I might not like the friction when in my pocket, but it actually works nice to keep the keep where I put it.

I use one of these leather key cases. My accidental button presses went way down after it. I have to be pressing into it with a good amount of force (like sitting on the key in my back pocket) for it to accidentally go off. You don't have to use the key ring/lanyard with it too. I don't.

I can't say for sure if it will work 100% for you, but for a couple bucks it certainly will help and is worth trying.

I have this same issue. I looked into BMW's "official" key covers, but they make the already large key huge.
Not only do I open my trunk in my pocket, but the button to disconnect the fob is so easily pressed that either the fob disconnects in my pocket, or it disconnects while I'm pulling the keys out of my pocket and I send the fob flying. It's taken a tumble down a full flight of concrete stairs because of this!

I got one off Amazon last year and it works perfectly.
Here's the original product listing Unfortunately it's no longer available on Amazon but I'm sure you can find it somewhere. It works well since it's hard plastic with a cutout around the buttons that prevents most pocket presses. It can fit into the special jeans pocket snugly and needs quite a bit of wiggling to pull it back out. The one I purchased also came with a BMW roundel on the back that actually looked nice, and it's covered in a soft plastic that is well made. Last edited by H2B; 05-10-2018 at 12:43 PM.. |

The M Performance case is hard on the inside so it is impossible to accidentally press any of the buttons.
https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...se-82292355518 I have one, they are very high quality. Price is kinda crazy for a fob cover, but I think it was worth it. |

What do you mean by a "tag" just curious. I'm looking for a key fob holder too. haven't seen anything that strikes my fancy just yet.

I saw a video (figures can't find it now) for the keyfob where the guy used one of those proximity tags and put it upto the steering wheel column and the car started... (same way a dead keyfob works) .... but like I mentioned it wouldn't work for the comfort access.... saw another video where the guy ripped the keyfob apart and made his own slim fob.... that's a little too drastic for me... be nice if they could shrink it down... hopefully something will pop up to use instead... surprised you can't use the comfort access with just your phone... maybe they'll add that option... bluetooth is basically always on...
