Service past 2 years and still 6 mnths left
I took my car into BMW this morning just to get the IDrive service records validated which they did and they are all fine. Ive read through a few service related threads here and the consensus is max 2 years between them but the car is telling me 10k or October which is 7 months over 2 years sice the last Oil change. The guy at BMW just said the car knows when it needs a service as it monitors the driving so Im wondering if that 2 year interval is quite flexible or should I put it in for the oil change just to tick the boxes for the future owner, I have a private warranty on the car too and I dont want to void that.

You can do if you want as it won't hurt. The oil changes are condition based as well as time/distance. If you have a warranty, it's probably best to stick to the time/distance rather than relying on the oil condition as warranty companies are notorious for wriggling out of claims.

I've only had it 3 months, it only goes shopping on a Saturday so not doing many miles atm. I do find excuses to take it out, any excuse but it's not a daily, I drive a van for work. The last service was March 22 and the car has done 15k since then.

Yeah I've requested a quote from an Indie down the road from me. Perhaps someone could explain why the dirty d's have a time/mileage limit while the petrol also takes the condition of the oil into consideration, I'm guessing it's because diesels contaminate a little more....

I only cover low mileage in my 440i, around 4k a year and the service interval is always two years. Same with my previous 440i and M135i.

I change my oil when the counter hits 10K miles irrespective of what the car tells me, so in effect an interim oil change, under standard servicing it's due approx every 20K. The oil service counter doesn't get reset on the interim change to keep the 'BMW' service schedule correct.
I-drive is updated and interim service logged with BMW servers so shows comprehensive history. Just can't get to grips with BMW 2 year or 20K mile oil servicing seems just too long for me, especially when they say that the gearbox is sealed for life and ZF recommend an oil change at 60K miles!! Mind you I do come from cars that you had to change the oil every 4.5K miles and leave it running when you got home to cool the turbo down... old habits die hard as they say. |

Thats a bit annoying to say the least, that means If i had more knowledge I could probably have demanded a service before I took the car home but then I would of had to argue with what the bloody car says. This is the key read from yesterday and it says almost 10k to he next change and i think it says (or Feb 2025). Doesn't make any sense. Oh well, at least I know going forward.

Why Dirty Ds don't go by condition is a good point actually. After I posted my first response, it occurred to me that 330d always goes by time/distance and not condition. Reason being, I change my oil every 3000 miles and the mileage remaining to next service never reduces accordingly, therefore the condition sensor is overruled. My services are due annually as I do 25K miles a year, so it's not cheap doing lots of miles! Therefore, I can only conclude that where it says on my VIN sheet "18,000miles/24 Months" as an option, perhaps you could choose variable servicing based on condition, or mileage/distance at the point of sale? That is a common thing with VAGs. You can choose time/distance or condition based. The latter can be expensive in some cases if you do a lot of miles, so maybe more people chose time/distance? Regular fresh oil is important in diesels for 2 reasons. 1) the chains don't like excessive carbon in the oil and 2) there is a little oil spray nozzle that feeds the chains, which can block up on neglected engines, accelerating chain wear. |

The 10/2024 due date is for the next MOT. Looking at the other values I would say it's had an oil change and brake fluid 02/2023 and that's why both of those are next due after 2 years 02/2025

Hmm, there's nothing on the IDrive or the Key that says it had a service in 2023. Maybe it needs plugging in rather than a key read but as far as I'm aware the key is connected to the BM servers too so it should be correct.

Deffinitely a bit strange, the Repair on 8th March 2022 expands out to show a full service so the car needs a service for sure but my key read shows it has almost 10k to go and there's no mention of another oil change in between.

I'd have it serviced now and get it back in line if you have no documentation to back up an oil change in 2023. |
