Sensatec interior rant
I am looking to get another BMW G23 but almost all of them (used) have Sensatec interiors (90% 430i). I can afford to get a M440i but even some of those have fake leather. Am I making too big of a deal about this? I have a hard time buying a $60K plus car, used, without leather interior. Curious as how to most people seriously think about this.

Don't forget that the Dakota/Vernasca/Oregon leather is just a relatively cheap, highly-processed, thicker leather...and probably won't wear/breathe/last any differently than the faux-leather Sensatec.
Nappa is better & softer, but still not what you'd call 'premium' as it's still very thin, painted (after dying) and lacquered. Merino is probably the highest tier you can get as a normal buyer (i.e. non-Individual/custom order)...and Lavalina if you've bought an Alpina. Personally, I'd prefer cloth/alcantara as they can be deep cleaned more easily. You can't really clean any of the BMW 'leathers' as the top 'lacquer' is what's getting dirty and you'd have to strip all that off and reapply to do a deep clean...or as was 'in the olden days' get a leather specialist to strip an reconnollise. My Z4MC has extended individual champagne Nappa, and the 335xD has black Dakota - but due to the seat design the sport seats in the F31 are much more supportive than the thin/shallow ones on the Z4MC...so much so that I replaced the standard seats for black & champagne alcantara Recaro Pole Positions. |
