Melting hood release cable

Has anyone experienced this? Is it normal? My car has 70k and i noticed it around 30k.

The cable goes across a coolant hose but my coolant temp reads normal.

Is it possible it was a one-time thing? Possibly some work being done or something that caused that to happen?

On my car, the cable is resting directly on top of that radiator hose. Maybe the jacket on the cable frayed and rubbed against the hose.

Either way, I'd replace that hose at least.

I actually zip tied mine in the mean time to avoid more wear on it until I get it replaced.

I think those cables are held in place with small plastic clips. They hold one cable to another one. I had one break on the other side of the engine, just used a loose zip tip to hold them in the right positions.

seems that the solution was never posted.

I came to look for a solution to this very problem or to better understand the reason.

Cheers

The cable doesn't melt, its just the sleeve around the cable. I rerouted it, but it was already starting to melt the sleeve. I'll get a picture up soon. It's an easy fix if you walk out to the car and look at it.
