I have a 2014 318 diesel. the HU died, stopped working, no sounds, display blank. I checked every fuse and all okay none blown.I fitted a replacement display but still not worked. I fitted a good replacement HU with identical part numbers, exactly the same numbers only difference was the serial number of course. I fitted the head unit and it worked perfectly, everything was back to normal. THEN i stupidly thought id do an update that i saw on this and other forums; pressing the volume button for 30 seconds to clear out old data. BAD MOVE. Now the unit displays a very basic form of information, all the menus have gone: now DAB, Navigation, Telephone, TPS, and all the other menus have disappeared from the unit!!! no settings menu to even find them. ive got basic radio functions and thats it.nothing else HELP

You most like have to either use an FSC code to get it to configure or uninstall the new HU and reinstall the old see what come and then reinstall the new one
