Hard Drive upgrade?

Is it possible to upgrade the Hard Drive in the car? I wouldn't mind putting like a terabyte in there.

Its a Automotive grade Toshiba 80GB drive in there.
They dont make a larger one and no one has found another one that works.

A standard drive wont last long in a car environment. And the system software seems to have been written for that specific drive only.

And this is perhaps the most crucial point, all things being equal.

I don't know how you would do it exactly, but perhaps a RAID type configuration with two or more of the Toshiba drives would work. Maybe an external RAID system, but I have no idea where you would fit something like that under the dash.

I am surprised they haven't gone to Flash memory. I guess SSD drives may still be too expensive but only 80GB should be very low cost difference.

Probably depends on the cost and lifespan.
They want as few drives failing in the warranty periods as possible, and this is 5 years in some countries.

They will probably change one of these days as prices and lifespans of SSD improve.
Lets see what the 7 Series facelift comes out with.
