Sport Line order vs M Sport Order
I need some help in narrowing down the right build for a 2013 335i Manual Transmission car. I've held off building a 335i because I've had a problem choosing between M sport and sportline.
In a perfect world I would have a F30 with a sport pack, burled wood interior. Basically what the 2011 model offered. I would have not gone M sport on a 2011 as I tend to like the design that BMW initiates when they launch the car. BUT... my problem is. I can't get past the red stitching on the black leather and lack of burl wood trim on the sportline. BUT. I prefer the look of the bumpers and interior on sportline. I think the M sport is nice though. Maybe I could learn to love it as much as the sportlne exterior. So has another found a way to order black seats without red trim or burl wood on a sportline. Does this really point me in the direction of the M sport. I've built the models many time online and I am still left not knowing with route to take. Any advice would be appreciated... |

You're probably the first person (who had the choice) that "prefers" the non-M sport bumper. I found the M Sport much more asthetically pleasing to the eye ... but hey, that's why there's choice.

You ought to be looking at the steering wheel more closely. The M-sport steering wheel "feels" a million times better than the standard Sport wheel.

Agreed, the M-Sport steering wheel is soo nice. It has a lot of negative space, makes all the dials and controls so easy to see while feeling great in hand. Also comes with the weighted shift knob which is much better. So even if you buy the Sport, plan on the ZHP shift knob swap.
Most people who have seen my car in person commented that they were not sold on the F30 front end until they saw it with the M-Sport bumper.

I prefer the sport line bumper, but I'm biased.
The only red accent on my car is the steering wheel, but I don't have black seats.

To me the M-Sport looks so much better than the regular lines, that I don't think I would have considered an F30 if there was no M-Sport.
That's how bad I think the regular lines are. The front bumper of the F30 is too flat and busy with weird useless inserts. M-Sport is a good balance between looking good and not looking like a boy-racer tuner car like the M. To each their own, but as far as I'm concerned it's M-Sport all the way. I just don't like all the "M" references with the M-Sport line. It's not an M so it shouldn't have "M" anywhere. It might just look like I couldn't afford a real M so got a bunch of "M" badges instead... |

You can get anthracite wood on a Sport, which also gets rid of the colored trim bit, and the gray seats get rid of the red stitching. Looks pretty great IMO.

Msport all the way. Stitching is nice but not worth all that.
Msport comes with many more features than the sport and yes the steering wheel is the nutz

It still doesn't get rid of the red stitching on the steering wheel. I ordered a 335i Sport line with a grey interior and anthracite wood. It still has red stitching on the steering wheel (WTF).

Then there's that fabulous M Sport steering wheel that makes the Sportline wheel feel so plastic-like. Another important part of the M Sport package are the great looking staggered wheels (which used to be standard on the E90-335i sport package) and proper summer performance tires. As for the aesthetics of the front face, I think the cleaner looking M Sport will stand the test of time much better than the fussy looking facias of the lines. But of course, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

The badges are kind of like the Type R trend with Hondas a decade ago. I had to go out of my way to get a nice plat surround with NO BMW or M or any writing. I also look forward to upgrading wheels so that will be a few less M badges lol.

Can you say that again about the "plat surround", what's that? Is it the stepper plate thing that says "M performance" or whatever when you open the door? I'd like to get rid of that but I'm not sure its an option when ordering.

go with the M-sport. Agreed that the sportline steering wheel is skinny.
I would also go with the 19" M-sport rims. they look better IMHO. I got leatherette sportline seats in my car and the stitching is barely noticeable. If M-Sport would have been available sooner I would have bought it. My car does look fantastic, though. I can't complain. |

A friend has an '99 E36 328is for example. At this point it's almost impossible to distinguish from an M3 as he is running stock M3 brakes and wheels. Once again the steering wheel and a variety of other things have M badges on it. It has the same part number for the front bumper too.

I just wish there was at least a small power bump with the M-Line, which i think will happen in the future, and I am sure bunch of ppl would get it even if it was up to $3k extra
