On a related note, I am not sure if BMW currently uses the TwinPower brand for any of their diesel engines (such as N47 TT and N57 TT) in the rest of the world. Anyone know? |

i asked someone who is going tomorrow to the montreal show to get the vin number and ask a lot of questions. hopefully he will point out that some bozo screwed all the information up. i also know somebody in the car biz who went to the detroit show and asked him to grill some of his american colleagues about the 3 series diesel intro in the states. he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I also call BS on those specs. Can't wait to see what the real ones are, but these specs do not make any sense for either a 4-cyl or a 6-cyl oil burner!

Web etk showing no record at the moment. I thought the first two characters were letters. Surprised to see letter plus a numeral

Yeah, the VIN is not showing up. But it is still useful. 3D5C in VIN -> 3D53 production code. EU equivalent is 3D51 - 320d xDrive. So, this is what Canada is getting.
Thanks, discoboy. |

I'd wager on 204hp/295lb-ft if the engine is indeed a tuned N47 (320d engine)... 240/295 doesn't look quite right for Diesel.

If you look at the E82 123d (the only *23d model still being produced - others have moved onto *25d now) specs on bmw.com it says the engine makes 204hp and 400Nm. If you plug that second number into your favorite converter the result is... you guessed it; 295ft-lb. As for why BMW would give us the 204hp version just as everyone else is getting upgraded, well who knows. Maybe that's the most they can get from the engine while passing emissions over here. In any case, evidence still abounds from other sources that there will indeed be a 328d so it is still a mystery as to what that is. Of course they could still use that name here in North America even if the car is outperformed by "lesser" models sold elsewhere. |

The specs said single turbo (the figures are incorrect), & the pic showed wht looks like a single turbo engine. If someone can take a closeup pic on the right side of the engine then we'll know the turbo arrangement.
The VIN came to nth on bmwvin.com, it may be a pilot production car & so it's not in the system. |

Ah, smart move!
And 3D33 (RWD) is alive in the system too. So, it's a 320d rebadged as 328d for US. Now we just need to find out if it really deserves to be badged like this. Brief inspection makes it obvious there will be power difference: the bumper grilles are different from EU 320d (different cooling -> possibly different boost), and the exhaust is dual instead of single pipe.
