Bmwski, did you get a code on a piece of paper too? I'm annoyed my dealer appeared to have removed mine so I can't update it.

The code provided is an activation code that the dealer puts in when doing the pre-delivery inspection. |

I think it might be in the car but reading other posts I reckon it will ask for a new code after a couple of start ups anyway. I believe new codes are around £30 which isn't too bad I guess... I just need the confidence to understand and download Torrent files |

I'll add something in a bit on how to do this. It doesn't warrant a new thread as I haven't managed to complete the upload of maps due to not getting hold of a code yet, but I can describe what I've done so far.

Looks like it may not work long term from reading other posts, if not then I will have to make a call to BMW or pay for a code I will update as things change. |

Note, the following is for Pro Media. The torrent file will be different if you have Business Media.
This is what I did to download the map 2014 files…. First, download and install the following software: http://www.freetorrentviewer.com/ (used for opening the torrent file) http://www.philipp-winterberg.com/so...tract_frog.php (used for extracting the rar files) Note, the above are Freeware, but careful when you install them as they often try to install web browser toolbars and the like. Just read each dialogue when installing and uncheck the boxes of any additional stuff you dont want. Then, go buy a 32GB USB drive. I bought a Sandisk from Amazon for about £11. Always comes in useful for other stuff. 1) Go to http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=893113 and scroll down the first post and locate Europe_NEXT_2014-1.torrent.txt in the attached files section. Download this file. 2) Rename Europe_NEXT_2014-1.torrent.txt to Europe_NEXT_2014-1.torrent. 3) Open up the Torrent Viewer software and load in Europe_NEXT_2014-1.torrent. 4) The download of the map files should now take place. It will download several rar files and an instruction txt file. This will take around 3 hours or more depending on your connection. It will put the files in C:\Users\<username>\My Downloads. 5) Once downloaded, open up the txt instruction file and follow the instructions. Note the the above will take several hours of downloading\extracting\copying etc.... I loaded the files onto the root of the USB stick and put the stick into the USB port of the car. After a couple of seconds, the following screen appears. Then click Start Update and I got the following screen. But as I've said, this is as far as I've got as I need to get a code.... Hope this helps.

It's a bit of a joke the map updates.
They are atrociously expensive in the first instance - £250-350. Seeing as BMW appears to have semi-annual updates now, that's costing you £500-700 a year if you want to keep everything up to date. If you do a lot of travelling, I can see why you would want the maps up to date. It's already one of the most expensive sat nav systems out there and the cost of the updates make it a very very very expensive system over the life of the car. Over 5 years, regular updates will have cost you £2,500 - £3,500...scary really! If I had the NBT map code generation tool, I would make it available to all at an instant. |

Mine is business nav so yes, the poster should get move. Dracon updated his original post afterwards and explains it in the middle of the multi page thread

Arr right, I'd better edit my post above as that's only for Pro Media....
