Additional Security?
So a friend had his car stolen last night. Broke into the house grabbed the keys and gone on 60 seconds...
So I started wondering about additional security and remember I had a steering lock from about 15 years ago in the garage. Only it doesn't fit the car. Does anyone else had any additional security on the car? |

Yes. Use a bullock t that I bought many years ago. Locks the pedals and more importantly acts as a visual deterrent.
Other option is a disk lock but only with a protector glove to prevent steering wheel being marked. Other school of thought is better they take it that way and you use your insurance/ gap as opposed to they wait for you and politely request the keys etc off you.

You can get a disc lock. However, what would have happened with your mate if the car thieves had to wake him up? If they had to walk in to one of his bedrooms at 2am? Personally, I am happy with Gap and leaving my keys visible in the kitchen. Different story when parked in town etc. |

Yeah that's a fair point. That's why I leave the keys downstairs. I know some people that take them upstairs at night. Not a good idea.
I was think more along the lines that if there was another physical security device visible on the car they would just leave and move along to something eaiser. |

I Do however put the monitored alarm on at nite which protects the garage. If you really what to keep it but not have said Scum in your bedroom close and personal, get a thatcham cat 5 alarm and separate the fob from the keys at night. If they do break in and take the keys, the monitoring company aliase with the police, track and/or can remotely disable the vehicle. But nothing's fool proof so check you insurance |

Unfortunately, due to some nut job in Scotland a few years back we are limited to what we can legally own. Not only that but sleeping with one which you do legally own under the bed is most certainly illegal. The law of our land is a funny thing sometimes. |

Guaranteed asset protection insurance to give its full name Basically your insurance will give you trade in value for your car at current market value. This will leave a shortfall between what you paid and what you get. GAP will top up the difference to either your original invoice price or for a replacement like for like vehicle. It's more important for financed vehicles as otherwise you would end up footing the difference if anything should happen to your car due to depreciation.

I am actually happy we are not allowed ready access to firearms in this country.
A high amount of the oxygen thieving population cannot be trusted to be in charge of a subway sandwich. Btw shotguns may likely be too slow, awakward to use and technically can be slow, also tend to stand out lying downside the bed lol. What can be good for getting off effective fire is .22 rimfire. Often suggested is a Ruger 10/22 - can be fitted with suppressor and night scope. Also unlike .45 etc, not likely to go through a number of plasterboard walls. Although anything decent is good |

Yes.
I keep a nest of funnel web spiders in my glovebox. They are trained to recognise my scent. If the cars starts, and it's not me........call 999. You have 17 minutes before the venom is fatal. |

Crazy have to say dont use my steering lock on nightly basis maybe I should , but then area is clearly marked and visibly covered by CCTV and out in open of the street so does get some traffic even at night. Keys can get locked away for both cars.
If they want to try to break in , firstly good luck and secondly not advisable. Kind ignore the dog and beware of the owner situation.

Also handy if you are a crap shot as the ball bearings will go everywhere. Sod the house, it's considered as collateral damage if you are unfortunate enough to be in that situation. And kal27, I've always been a sucker for a 9mill. Particularly Browning Semis. |

I have fitted a keyless immobiliser/anti-hijack device to my R. It really is a very nifty piece of equipment. Can do all sorts with it.

A few yrs back my parents house was broken into for the keys to my dads 6series. Parents use to leave the conservatory keys in the door as the back garden is only accessible through a bolted/padlocked gate. However the scumbags scaled a side wall, then cut the double glazing around the handle on the door to unlock it. My golf clubs were in the conservatory which they picked up as weapons they ransacked downstairs and found the spare key to the 6.
They dumped it 3 miles away in a housing estate realising it had a tracker!! We actually told the police where the car was, they didn't have a clue! |
