Stands for "Technical Service Bulletin". If you have the issue, just refer the TSB# to your dealership and they get detailed info from their database: what the issue is, the fix, parts to order... and even how much/how many minutes to charge (to BMW in case of warranty work of course).

Painted rear reflector
Another quick-and-inexpensive mod completed with painted rear reflectors from iND. I looked at reflectors painted in body color (EBII) and diffuser color (Dark Shadow Metallic) and liked the dark look better. Before: After: I need to think about the next thing to do, but it is too late to order something to install this week end

Do not go to a car wash...ever
On the way back home today, I did something I NEVER do and stopped by at my local car wash. I thought 'the heck, for once a quick $7 exterior was is not going to permanently damage the car'. I should have known better. The paint of the car came out OK but the same can not be said about the car itself. At the end of the conveyor, a broken weld caused a trap door to come up and wedge between the fender and side skirt on the driver side The Car Wash apologized, accepted 100% of the responsibility and filed a claim immediately. I should hear from their insurance tomorrow. No need to say that I'll get the car fix a t a top notch shop I trust and that took care of my previous cars. Here are a few pics of the damage. The fender got really bent, to the point that it is no longer aligned with the hood, the A-pillar or the door. Somehow, I believe it is a good thing as it could indicate that the car is designed to indeed have the fender as an easily 'disposable' part of the car body. Anyway, I am incredibly mad It is not the end of the world, it is only a car, it will get fixed liked new (paint has not had the time to fade or anything), but it means hours of my time lost and probably a few days driving a Chrysler 200 or another ugly rental. Grrr. PS: I will need consolation big time for the moral prejudice: an exhaust perhaps

That sucks! I learned from auto washes many years ago when I went through a dealer owned wash and it removed the paint of the rear bumper. No liability from them was taken as they had huge disclaimer signs posted at the entrance of the wash.
Hopefully it's fixed without too much frustration and time. Good luck! Last edited by f30luxline; 11-19-2014 at 10:04 PM.. |

Sorry to see that but this can be fixed with no issues. Shouldn't show up on the CarFax either. I've been handwashing my car throughout my first year of ownership. I guess I won't be taking it to a car wash after seeing those pics even in it's second year.

I just wish I'll have the car back for the 12/7 mountain run. If not, I'll have to take the E46. I hope you guys would forgive me for not being in an F3x

Gloss black trim
While I am waiting to get the exterior fixed, I installed the centre console gloss black trim. Easy job, just need to be careful not to break any clips. Before swapping the controls: After: Installed in the car:

Great analysis re Audi vs BMW I've gone back and forth starting with the B5 S4 (still own this beaut), X5 ///M, B8 S4 which is end of lease and now a 328d Xdrive M-Sportwagon (current). Can't go wrong just all in at for the 3 years. No offence to the ladies, but sometimes i prefer a blonde to a brunette, and vice versa. Audi will only win my dollar back is if the next gen S4/S6 come in a RS4/RS6 Avant. Need a test-fueled ride for family needs + for fun / track times too

Got my baby back
Getting Bilstein B8 shocks at the rear to celebrate. I do not want to go all the way to coilovers since I have no intention to track the car (or very occasionally), but want it a bit less wobbly/bouncy. H&R springs + B8's at the rear seem to be a good combo according to several forum members. I'll give it a try. More to follow this week end!

I'll keep the stock struts up front first and see how the new setup works. I have read a few write ups by forum members who were happy with it. I'll go for a bit of spirited driving this week end to find out...

I am as OCD with my iPhone5 wallpapers as I am with my car, so here are a couple that I found 'as is' or tweaked to my own taste. The last one is in 'parallax' size. I thought I'd share so just download them if you like...

Rest in peace N55
It saddens me to inform yo that my N55 engine has passed away two days ago. Getting back on the throttle after a sharp turn, the engine stalled and the car stopped. I tried to restart it but it would not crank and after only two attempts, a lot of smoke and strong burning smell came out of the engine bay (most likely the starter consuming itself as it was not able to crank). It turns out that the engine is locked and will need a full replacement (under warranty of course since it was only 2 months/2,500 miles old). Neither do I or the dealership understand what happened: it is not a hydrolock and even though I came out of a sharp turn, I doubt I was pulling more than 0.9 lateral g's and that the car got into any kind of oil starvation (and the engine should be able to handle much higher lateral g's than that). BMW immediately agreed to a full engine + turbo + starter replacement and all parts are on their way. The broken motor will go back to Germany as it is probably the standard procedure. The dealership mentioned that the tune had nothing to do with the issue. At this point, I am very happy I went with the Dinan tune still as the dealership provides warranty coverage on both BMW and Dinan stuff. This was still a VERY bad surprise and disappointment -to say the least-. I have beaten the sh*t out of E36 and E46 M3's on the track without a single issue and a more modern brand new bimmer engine just died during (spirited) open road driving :thumb down Anyway, I'll get my car back with brand new engine and parts in less than 2 weeks and got a BMW loaner in the meantime, so I guess it is not too dramatic. I was still planning on taking the 335i out for occasional trackdays, more to find out what is was worth than anything else, but I am not sure I'll dare to do it. I am also asking myself if I should ask for something from BMW to make it up for the inconvenience More to follow...

sorry to hear of the news. Glad you're ok and no one was hurt on the road when it decided to crap out. very shocking news to hear though. keep in good spirits that they will be replacing it with a new motor and all.
