An aftermarket touch-screen stereo & cheap Garmin gps is all the tech that I need. I have my music on 2 64g flash sticks & the wheel buttons work as normal.

I noticed this Article is sponsored by Hyundai Kona.
Having said that, I own both a BMW F36 with Wireless Carplay and Hyundai Ioniq with Carplay. "+" Hyundai 1. Carplay is standard on every late model 2. No subscription requires "-" of Hyundai 1. Has to be plugged in to use 2. Takes over the entire center screen and does not allow for anything else to be displayed (such as radio and other vehicle settings) "+" of BMW 1. Wireless - fits the theme of Bluetooth, wireless phone, proximity key. Once set up you never have to take your phone out of your pocket/purse/jacket. 2. Allows split screen - Carplay is just a small function of your iDrive. I don't know if it's possible to program Carplay as one of the function button. (1-8) "-" of BMW 1. You will eventually need a USB port to charge your phone as you use Carplay. This function can drain an iPhone battery rapidly 2. $80 a year subscription or $300 for 20 years. Come on BMW! Seriously? What happens if I trade in my BMW like I usually do after 6 months to a year? |

Drivers that carp about needing Apple Carplay in a car are probably better off staying in an Uber or taxi.

Note how I've retrofitted carplay to both my e46s and my e39, sold my e9X, and the only new BMW I have left suffers from almost none of the tech I listed (damn you EPS).
... though I do intend to get a C8, with carplay (comes as standard), despite the autotragic trans.

256gb thumb drive fits my movies so the passengers can watch videos in motion. All my music fits on my 256gb iPhone but I honestly just stream from Spotify now.

I'm old fashioned, not a big tech guy. Hell, I still buy cd's. My stereo has Android Auto but I have no interest in it. 128g holds all I need, not everything that I have, just my driving music.

Also, when I ask SIRI to navigate (in the Hyundai), it defaults to Apple map not Waze. So it's Apple's own doing and not any car company's fault.

That's about the same bitrate as Bluetooth without APTX. I use it even in my SQ built car. No reason to pay more for Tidal if you're using Bluetooth in my use case. Lossless is going to be compressed down anyway.... |

I'm not that big on audio quality as long as it's at least as good as satellite radio it would do

EVERYTHING is better than satellite. Satellite is terrible.
