MY 2016 Adaptive M vs. Msport
There are a ton of threads comparing the Adaptive M and M sport suspensions of earl F30s in 2012-2013 but I have not found anything on this topic after the software update (~2015) or more importantly with the LCI changed front suspension geometry.
Does anyone have any thoughts about how body roll on the LCI compares to a pre-LCI car? I currently have Adaptive M + Dinan springs and I am considering jumping to Msport suspension (and do not plan on doing springs again), but I am worried I simply wont be happy with the body roll.

That's bad/misleading advice. Stiffer anti-roll bars will reduce body roll however it will also make the suspension less independent. |

Ended up finding a RWD/6MT with the Adaptive M. I can safely say that the Dinan springs resulted in less body roll, although possibly only on account of the lower center of gravity. That being said, there is definitely less body roll and better feel than my '13 before installing the Dinan springs.

If you lowered the car while maintaining the same spring rate, it would roll almost as much until the car is resting on a bump stop. If lower center of gravity was such a factor, why are all the well-researched and designed suspension modifications such as M Performance Suspension, Ohlins Road & Track, and AST only lowering an additional 10mm beyond the Sport Suspension? They would just lower it further until the car is slammed to eliminate body roll. In fact, if you lower the car so much that it only rests on the bump stops (stance anyone?) there will be almost no body roll through a corner. |

I certainly realize the Dinan had a stiffer spring rate. I bought them and installed them after all.
My only point was that even if we cant pinpoint which factor is most responsible for reducing body roll, the fact remains that the Dinan was lower than my new set-up (which, by the way looks like a 4x4 in comparison) and certainly that improves handling characteristics of any car somewhat. As you pointed out, the M Performance suspensions is also an additional 10mm lower. Check out how high this looks (RWD/Track Handling/442 19"s). Do you think it's just the 19s? Any chance BMW would spec a higher ride height due to the M-Performance splitter? Can I expect it to settle out? To be fair, I don't mind the extra clearance for my driveway.

Its interesting, I really never had any complaints with ride quality with the Dinan springs ... until I got the new car last week. I dont know if its the revised suspension geometry or if they tweaked the Adaptive M dampers or if it is the re-tuned electric power steering, but my 2016 340 is a dream to drive compared to my 2013 335 - and that is with 19"s on the 2016 vs. 18"s on the 2013. Definitely has less body roll than my 2013 did stock but it does roll more than the 2013 did with the Dinan springs. I'd love to eliminate that roll altogether on this car, but everything else is so much better that I doubt I will mess with it this time around. Contrast that with my first week in the 2016 (coming from a 2011 e90 Msport/RWD) when the first thing i did was look for solutions to help eliminate all the body roll i was experiencing. My biggest complaint with the Dinan springs was front clearance. To be fair, I had either an early production example or possibly even a beta set of the Dinan springs which i purchased from another forum member second hand, so its possible Dinan tweaked the specs in later examples, but my front was really, really low - much lower than the rears looked by comparison. I'll try to find a picture to post here for comparison. But i scraped or bottomed out fairly often and I have had literally zero scrapes so far with this car. so the latest examples may have worked some of these kinks out. Plus now you have the Dinan shockware option. I havent read up on the Dinan springs for the 2016 models but I assume they will have a revised version available and I have no doubt they will be better than the H&Rs or other springs-only option out there. From what I understand, Dinan designed the springs with intention of having them work with the Adaptive M suspension specifically and the results were not as good with the regular M Sport suspension.

BTW, nice vids of the MPE. I have been happy with the pops and burbles stock....but the MPE sounds tempting.
