Lightbulb Reading your JB4 log - the "how to" guide

Hi

Took me the best part of 4 hours to make - hope someone will find it useful. Feedback would be much appreciated

Great idea..just glanced at it and, will check it later. I think this is the first log reading vid. Always something to be gained from someone's experience.

Any suggestion how to make it more interesting/informative or just if I am plain off on something - please let me know

Great video! Only part left out is explaining how to do a proper log. I see people posting non WOT logs to 6th gears pulls etc, lol

For those that dont know, full throttle 2.5K to redline 3rd or 4th gear or both if you can!

Thought it was a great and very informative video thanks a lot for putting this together!

If I could ask for anything else it would be a description of acceptable values for things like ign, avg_ign, trims, hp_f, etc.
It would be great to have some sort of values tolerances to compare logs to so a person actually has more context as to what they are looking for.

Further to that, some sort of reasoning as to why a value is out of acceptable tolerance (ie. low octane, spark plugs gone bad, etc)

I know the JB4 Bible document sort of explains what all the values are but doesnt dive too deep into what is acceptable ranges and why you might be out of range and what you can do to fix it!

Thanks for the feedback. I believe I actually DO mention what acceptable values are to a reasonable degree. After all, one cannot read and conclude on a log without knowing what is acceptable and what's not...

On purpose I didn't dive too much into the route cause as I don't feel 100% confident on this. The Bimmer is a very complex machine. Adding to this the complexity of the JB4, different FW revisions etc - no thanks

Thank you Niels for making this real world experience based tutorial, covering many enough basics there is to know for a JB4 user to determine if his car is doing ok. I don't think anyone beats you to it

Maybe up next, you demonstrate a few common tuning strategies to address the abnormalities mentioned in this video.

I would love to but I have little personal experience with mechanical or electrical problems (luckily!).

The only issues I have really had are:
Misfire - solved by replacing the spark plugs
Boost leak - solved by replacing the spark tightening all clamps
Hiccups during light throttle - solved by disconnecting MAF

The rest has been due to the ISO FW being in its infancy and just tinkering with things.

In general you would get a very long way by double checking that you have the latest FW, that it matches your JB4 board, that everything is properly connected and that all settings are the default.
