Input on F31 coilovers please.
Hi All,
Just picked up my 2018 328d xDrive Touring. First thing I did was talk to a few shops and email Bilstein for options and correct part numbers . Some shops said the appropriate kits for my car are backordered. I wanted to try and find a dealer who had stock left, but Bilstein finally got back to me and the rep said they don't have anything for my car. What gives? I wanted to try Öhlins, but they don't make anything either. KW isn't my first choice as over the years I've heard about more trouble with them vs anything else and I've always had good results with PSS kits in other cars. So where do I go from here? |

I too was looking at coilovers and came to the same issue as you. I decided to forego the suspension unless I can come up with enough to afford an air suspension.

Did you figure out if there are appropriate kits for us from Bilstein? The shops must figure Yes if they say they are on back order. |

Here is a good review and set up on the Bilstein coil overs.

Not clear which kit he used Part number wise. 50mm drop is plenty for me. Which is why I was thinking maybe he used a different kit as he said the drop isn't very much. Maybe 50mm isn't very much, I'm not sure. |

I picked up a 2017 F31 330 with xDrive recently, and have spent some time researching coilovers. I was set on getting Ohlins R&T until learning they aren't currently compatible with xDrive. I ended up ordering the KW DDC Plug & Play Kit, which connects directly into the EDC system (it uses the factory EDC controls). Unless you are tracking your vehicle, I don't believe there to be a better coilover. I will add, however, that I'm still waiting on my order (sent from Germany), so I cannot comment on real use.

I don't have the EDC, so not sure this holds true for me. I certainly have no plans to track the car. I bought it as I have a very long commute (over 100 miles a day) and in a few years plan to pass it off to my wife. I was thinking I might even go PSS10 just for that reason. I could soften it up for her. So the street comfort might be an option. I'll look into it. Thanks. |

Let us know how the ride height turns out! I've heard they can be pretty darn low and that you might want their spacers. |

39020033 is what you want. I'll update in a few weeks once installed (had to order from Germany for the KW).

I know, right? That's one of the things that made me paranoid, and check with multiple sources to verify.

I've put around 1500 miles on them.
Overall, I've been happy with the purchase. This is the first time I've lowered my vehicle, so it's a new experience. The EDC controls are seamless, and noticeable. On well-maintained, normal roads, the ride is very smooth. I feel confident driving aggressively on backroads. It can be quite rough when going through areas with potholes, patches, etc. Now, I'm not sure if that's normal for a car that's dropped this low, or something else. My installer was very helpful. He indicated that there is a limited amount of travel in the front related to the xdrive and/or wagon. I was getting a fair amount of what I think was coil bind at first. This seems to have worked its way out considerably, perhaps from wearing at the common bind points. Here's some pictures I posted in another thread, if you'd like to see the drop: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=907

Thanks for sharing. I am also interested in KW DDC Plug and Play coilovers. Any insights if OEM height can be maintained with these coilovers?
