Muffler Delete Rusty?
Hey all,
so i've went to a local exhaust shop and i got a muffler delete and he replaced it with some black pipes. The car sounds awesome, but the pipes have become very rusty after 2 years. Usually a big portion of the rust goes away after a 1-2hour drive, but it comes back. Is this something to worry about or is it normally? is it possible that the rust can transfer in the rest of the car? Should i replace the pipes with stainless steel? Let me know your thoughts car: f32 420i 2018 Note: i rarely use the car, done only 500km in 1 year |

Looks like it is. Rust is difficult to remove unless the material is changed, so just leave it alone, if pursue aesthetics, you need to replace the exhaust system. For saving money, and tell others don't lie down on the ground to watch it.

Not a huge deal but if concerned about the look, get under there with a can of high temp black paint and a piece of cardboard to block overspray. If you want to get extra clearance, back up on a set of ramps.

When new I think that would of worked but the rust will just flake it off unless he cleans the entire thing.

It probably would, since the resonant frequency of a pipe varies with length, material density and thickness. I doubt that SS would be identical to plain steel in those respects. But as for the exhaust sound, fahgeddaboutit.
