Thank you Sir ...but i guess for US, there is no need to worry about all this since BMW will take care of the routine maintenance during the first four years...

Do the spark plugs have to be changed that often?
My current car has 130000km on it and has never needed new spark plugs... Or is this a BMW-thing? Howow |

Do you drive a petrol or a diesel Astra ? If the latter it only has glow plugs to start the engine up. It doesn't have sparkplugs like a petrol engine.

Should stop asking silly questions. But I've learned something, that's important Daarom dan de bijnaam 'zelfontbrander'? But is it normal for a petrol engine, that they need to be replaced so often? Howow |

Are you sure those are correct? Spark plugs at every oil change for the N20? Any mention of coil service life? Certainly adds a good bit of expense to out of warranty service costs if true.

My E90 has spark plug change interval set at 160,000 km. The interval on the N20 seems shockingly frequent.
If that is the case that spark plugs need to be chagned that frequently, it leads me to start thinking about if these turbo motors save the end user any money at all. Think about it... change spark plugs very often, possibly five times more often in the case of the N20 and then on top of that you have to get the intake valves cleaned every so often to maintain the performance/economy of the engine due to the Direct Injection. All this to save like 10% on fuel. |

Wow. So along with the current $150 oil change, you get to pay for $10/plug and labor, plus a mircofilter. I suppose a non-warranty oil service will now be $300 or more. Still unclear on how frequently you need to replace the $46/coil on top of that.

There is no replacement schedule for the coils.

I'm glad I convinced my mother to get an X3 28i with the inline-6 rather than waiting for this craziness... there's lots of trade-offs invovled with this new 4-banger.

The N55 isn't better by any means, 6 plugs on every other oil change, meaning on avg 3 plugs per oil change. |

You cannot compare a non-turbo engine with a turbo engine.
