Big Problem!
ok, So i am in the market for a new car... getting rid of my X3, I just purchased an X5 SAV, and now looking for the NEW F30....
Ok, here is the problem... is BMW going the likes of Porsche? Going to the dealership, looking at the option list of the car, its absolutely ridiculous... I have seen a 328i at $54,000... WITHOUT xenon lights, angel eyes, ... I am really getting pissed that they are doing this, before you can get options, I agree, but did you know that they still sell a 328, with Leatherette, manual seats, no sunroof, still for 37,000? I know I will get another Bimmer, but I have a problem with this, I ran in to this when I purchased my 911...(500 for the crest in the headrest) BMW are going the wrong way if you ask me, some of the signature icons, angel eyes are an option, not even a package... Some of you might defend and say, if you get the Modern line, you get xenon.... what if you don't want the premium, I have to get base... I had my hopes up going to the dealership and looking at the ridiculous prices.... I did of course my research, I have had a number of cars, but in this day and age, 36K for a BASE model is not a good move by BMW... IMHO!!! ak.

Unfortunately, here in the USA, BMW is not a budget vehicle, it's gone strictly Luxury, that's why we only have two vehicles to pick from. If it were not such a strict luxury mindset here in the USA, we'd see the full line of BMW's starting at the 316.
It sucks but that's how it seems to be here. I don't know what your final budget is but you should be able to put something together for $37k+, a lot of members have had good success negotiating pricing so, I would recommend looking at some of the other threads. |

Actually, Did I thought I was good at negotiating, but the dealer was not even going to hear about "just above invoice" My personal budget is about in the 40's, and the only one he could locate with Xenon (My only game changer) was $45K...(Mohave Metallic?? WTF?) or I can build and wait 6-8 weeks, but not time for that...
I want the lights for the sake of safety, this car replaces my wifes X3 and my 8 week old will be riding in this once in a while... and I know that I am freaking BLIND so I want the best lights on a car... I need a car by tomorrow! I sold the X3 (Getting rid in my OP means the check has to clear) so I might just get an brand new 2011, since they are giving HUGE discounts... My wife does not care if its a 2012, or 2002... Also, i have has a couple of FIRST RUN bimmers and not had success... NOT SURE! talk about last minute! ak.

Ok, I think I understand the dilemma, you need the car NOW so, you have to take what the dealer has. This is why the dealer has the advantage, my advice is to build your car and save yourself a headache and at the same time save yourself some money. Otherwise, are there any other dealerships in your area? if so, shop around and see if you can get a break.
If all else fails, you can always upgrade aftermarket... Best of luck. |

Ya, I did get the dealer to do a search, (other dealers and what is out there) and that Mohave metallic is not on the lot, but will be here on the next shipment either Monday or Friday, Most likely Friday, but personally that color is not what I want, so I will pass... I might pull the trigger on a 2011, and wait, since they can take the bugs out... The one I drove Kept stalling (new engine off feature!) that would not start, back, weird, the dealer told me this is somewhat common to "new" cars. I think that was a bunch of BS... Nice car, the F30, but I decided that I will wait... and the one Pictured above(Blue) is the Msport that will be out later this year...
thankd for hearing me out... ak.

Dude, you're making a big mistake by "having the need for a car in a day". As someone said earlier, the dealer is going to sense that instantly (if he/she is a good sales person) and charge you exorbitantly high margin. I'd say wait for a few days until theyre stocked and try to shop around. Even go to the neighboring state and bring one in.
Anything but don't settle for a 2011 - it will depreciate like there is no tomorrow. F30 is a significant upgrade and if you're worried about little problems (auto-stop feature can be turned off when starting the car and it can be tricked into temporarily disabling it, or xenons can be installed later on), you're going to make a bad decision. My 2 cents. |

Sorry, the Modern Line does not include Xenons. You have to buy a 335i to have them included in the base price. |

What was it's configuration? My 328i has every possible option on it, I honestly selected them all, and the car is $53K, with Xenon... Kind of odd to hear there is a more expensive one without Xenons. ( I saw another Mohave Metallic, looks like my old CLS launch edition Indium Gray) not a huge fan on this car.
This is what concerns me... with a Base of 34,900... this is $18,100 over the base price only in options! and the end of the day, it's a 328! Not to bash your choice, but that is what my initial Post was all about... I went in today, thinking that I would drive out with a car (done it soo many times)... MIND ON Straight! and walked out and felt like I had an a$$ whoop.... I know that I can get aftermarket, and might be making a wrong choice, My other cars are not here at the moment, and I refuse to to put my 8 week in a 911... I will let you guys know tomorrow, it's 12:44am and I have a long day tomorrow and a Damn Car short!!! THANKS FOR THE INPUT, AK.

We have been planning to move to Europe for quite some time and our plans were still very much alive when the car was ordered early February. This is why we ordered every option available for the car. The 328i was chosen because of the high gas price and road taxes in Europe, and the plenty of options was so we could create an even higher resale value in 3 years. Thing is, the car we get now for $53K is worth about $90K (new) in Europe, after 3-4 years, you can still get pretty much the same amount back as you initially paid for it (that is, the European value), especially with some of the options as many options are twice the cost there as they are here. Technically that would make it so that we could drive a nice car with little expenses, almost to the point where we drove the car for almost for free. Of course it's not entirely correct, I am aware of shipping costs and import costs but that loss is only minimal. Oh well, we only just decided to stay within the US after all, we might still move in several years but not any time soon. In a way I know I should cancel my current order and order a different one with less options but... idk, I don't feel much having to wait yet another 2-3 months, especially not because my current lease is about to end. I can live with my decision, the only ridiculous option is the cold weather package while I live in Hawaii but like someone else said, at least I'm prepared for the next ice age Either way, I do agree, the options can make the car too expensive

Don't make me call the Panama Canal authorities and have them close the locks when you arrive there

Hate to say it TS is just moaning for nothing imo. A normally not so loaded 328i in Holland = 58k euros overhere. (US$ 75k) If you don't want to pay for it in any way, go out and buy a Camry. A very good car too(not kidding) I'm getting a bit tired of those complaints tbh. Cheers Robin |

In terms of options, it is what it is. No one likes the fact that you can spend close to $20,000 on options, but that is why BMW is a premium brand here in the United States. It sounds like the color of the car and xenons were very important to you. You could have ordered a 2012 with the color of your choice and premium package+xenons and would have been in your price range. Of course, this would take time that you don't have. However, take it as a valuable lesson in that the next time you are thinking about getting a new BMW, it would probably be best to go in and order it a few months in advance so you get exactly what you want and you don't pay for options that you don't need. |

Gator, and to all the other guys...
Well said, I know that the cars in Europe are expensive, I am from England, wife from Mauritius and I know the tariffs on a car you pay, Double duty tax, and have to pay cash!! no financing in small countries! So a 35K = 70K... but that is neither here nor there... I do admit, that I have done the pick a car, paint, etc ED delivery, I did that on the CLS, and then Gave it to my brother, since he wanted the car, as I did my 335i, my nephew wanted it so I gave it to him in December... (No more cars to give!!) I am going for a 2011 328, with Msoprt Pkg, for $35K. this is a nice car, keep it for about couple of years and give it to my niece, when she turns 18. But I really do appreciate the comments, at times Hillarious, Oh, btw, regarding the Mohave colour.... reminds me of a Joke: Q? What Did Spock find in the toilet??? A? Captains log!! thanks guys, see you guys on the flipside! ak.

you look like you are one generous man... by "giving" you mean they dont have to pay a single penny back to you??
Anyways, you should be better and above any complains... but it's the principle right ???!! i know it... seeing that you have Porsche, if you bought it new, it a worse experience than BMW, and you must know that... Anyways: I see the words... Canal, Toilet, Mojave.... I just want to shut the door and spray a bit of Febreze... Indeed, this IS a Big problem!

My 328 Sportline on order is S$215,000 - that's Euro130,000/US$170,000. And that's without some options that I want, like lumbar and HK sound system (though the dealer has put in some options already). Who'd like to top that? |
