Is navigation only software?
Hi there,
Was thinking to buy a F30 without Navigation. Is this possible to install it later? I mean is it just the software? Thanks, |

Its not just software. The screen is different, there is other hardware.

Correct. Definitely, not software only, otherwise how would the system work right? In any case, it uses the hard drive for quicker access and probably to draw all that cool 3D stuff you see on screen.

OP is in Netherlands and I believe they have a Nav option (Business Nav) with the smaller iDrive screen. But, regardless, it does require hardware (GPS receiver + Hard Driver for map storage, etc.) that is not there in non-Nav models.

As pcbrew points out, NAV requires a GPS receiver to function and I am fairly sure BMW don't fit one to non-NAV cars so, sadly, you'll need more than just a software upgrade to get NAV.
