I suspect your prediction won't come to pass. There are merits to Alpina cars such as, typically, even more exclusivity than an M. Additionally, consider that there is the touring form factor which cannot currently be had from M Division.

This. When you start talking exclusivity, never underestimate prospective buyers. As far as BMW's go, Alpina is as exclusive as you'll get; you won't get that with any M car.

Unfortunately here in the UK the RV on these cars is LOW.

I choose an Alpina B3 over a M3 even though the M3 would be cheaper! 1. Exclusivity, worldwide there are less than 370 B3 BT worldwide! 2. More economical to run 3. Pay only 1/2 road tax compared to a M3 due to Alpina being classed as a small car manufacture 4. Unique colour ( Alpina blue and Alpina Green) 5. Performance more torque than an M3 (same as a 3 litre diesel!) 6. Lighter than an M3 (0-62mph in 4.7 sec) 7. It’s not shouting am a M3! 8. Creates less unwanted attraction 9. Bespoke interior to customers’ requirements 10. Resell value similar / to better to an M3 for the above reasons 11. Ride quality Alpina's own specification I could go on! I confess I not sure on the saloon design, really hope that the coupe looks like a small 6 series! |

The cooling setups they make are intense and well beyond factory BMW. The suspension tuning is different than anything BMW offers and they co-developed the auto transmission (which they have patents for). Unlike "tuners" Alpina as a manufacturer tests everything to meet requirements for longevity and usability. They make everything much more robust than they really need to be. Not to mention the bespoke nature of the cars- they are built to customer spec in all markets but the US (US doesn't get the custom interior due to crash testing requirements). They use the same grade leather as Rolls and you can have it dyed, trimmed, embossed basically however you want. The exhausts are co developed with Akro- so they sound great. Exclusivity always comes at a premium- one that a lot of customers are interested in paying. They are growing rather than your suggestion they will fold up. The drive character of an Alpina is very different than an M car as well not to mention the fact they love to make wagons... I am seriously debating getting a used Alpina B3 S.

An Alpina is similiar to buying a hand made suit .
exclusive to yourself , reflects your personality and totally one of a kind. Everyone has an M , not everyone has an Alpina. And that is why the brand is successful , it is fluent in individuality and is more personal than BMW M. Alpina is also a very good talking point. Everybody knows what an M is but not everybody knows what an Alpina is and that is why in Europe people choose these cars for the amount of exclusivity and of course every Alpina can be personalised to each individual aspect , again like a hand made suit. I do not see Alpina going out of business , their exclusivity means that they will always have that special customer waiting for the right car and Alpina has a strong customer base in Europe and Asia. There is an agreement that keeps the Alpina models away from the US Market because they would directly compete (in price) with respective M models. The B7 has no direct BMW M competitor.

Blech. maybe the engine tuning is worth it, but I think Alpina takes a great looking car and wrecks it. Those wheels are heinous. Might as well put a landau vinyl roof on it with gold badging.
IMHO Alpina used to make a a good looking car look better, now they just look dated. Last edited by torzeck; 08-09-2012 at 07:16 PM.. |

Hell yeah! I like what Im reading so far on the basis if they are able to tune the f30 to 400 hp, the aftermarket tuners are bound to figure it out and follow suit. At least I hope that we will be able to get a tune that puts us relatively close to 400hp. I would be very happy with 370-380hp
