Summary of all F30 USB / iPod / iPhone audio options
I dont have my 328i yet - still 2 months away, my 328i has the Professional Nav but not the extended Bluetooth/USB.
Based on what ive read I think the following is correct...let me know if ive missed anything... My understanding are the the following options exist (except radio and CD): 1. USB Memory stick in arm rest USB 2. iPod/Iphone in arm rest with BMW Y cable (USB and 3.5mm Stereo) 3. Copy from USB to internal HDD using USB in glove box. 4. iPod/iPhone in arm rest USB with standard apple cable 5. Bluetooth streaming To use the above options you need: 1. Any model 2. Any model 3. Only with Professional Nav 4. Only with Extended Bluetooth/USB 5. Only with Extended Bluetooth/USB What i havnt been able toget a clear picture on is what different functionality exists for these 5 options. Can anybody add details about how the 5 different methods vary from a user interface/features perspective. Im interested in: Are there differences in the controls Are there differences in the display (including cover art) Are playlists available 1. Playlists:Yes (Tricky?), Album art:No 2. Playlists:Yes, Album art:No 3. Playlists:Yes, Album art:Yes 4. Playlists:Yes, Album art:Yes, 2 phones active (for calls) at the same time 5. Playlists:Yes, Album art:? Probably not im guessing, 2 phones active (for calls) at the same time Thanks to LAnderson23, Rob72 Last edited by Cam70; 05-30-2012 at 07:32 PM.. |

Wow, a very nice summary, finally. There seems to be a lot of conjecture on this topic. From what I have seen, everything you say is correct. I've seen screenshots of the interfaces, and from what I've seen you DO NOT get album art displayed unless you have the enhanced USB. Additionally, if you have BMW Apps and have the iPhone cradle, you get a fancier more iPod looking interface.
Playlists work in any situation above, although I've seen threads where people had trouble creating them correctly on a USB stick. |

Another thing that the extended bluetooth option provides, is the ability to have 2 phones active at the same time.
Calls received from either phone will come through, but outgoing calls will go through the primary phone. The Bluetooth menu provides an option to swap primary and secondary to make outgoing calls on the other phone. This in contrast to the 'basic' bluetooth where you can have 4 phones linked, but only 1 phone active at any point in time. |

And for some reason I can't get music to copy to the hard drive from the glove box USB. My goal there would be to copy it and them be able to do album art as described above to work from the hard drive.
I even formatted the USB key as FAT32. Any ideas? |

Glovebox USB is for downloading music to internal HD or downloading profiles from car to USB stick. You CANNOT play music from USB in glovebox. You have to plug the USB stick into the USB port in the center armrest. NTFS doesn't work, has to be FAT.

Question for the group:
I've got a month before my F30 arrives, I have the MY2013 Technology Package which includes Enhanced USB, Apps, Nav, the works. I have a beater iPod Touch with 25,000+ songs on it which will live in the car 24/7, will always be in the glovebox used only for Music. I'll have an iPhone 4 which will only be used for Apps and Voice Calls (never Music). I want the best possible interface for the iPod Touch and music, that's my priority, so the Snap-In adapter appears to be what I need to achieve that. I'm told that the only way you get the Apple iPod Out UI is with that cradle. Here's the question(s): 1. Which Snap-In will work best with the iPod Touch? Will it fit in the iPhone 4 version or do I need to find an iPhone 3/3GS version? Is there an iPod Touch version of the Snap-In or is a workaround with the phone adapters necessary? 2. Over to my iPhone 4, when I want to use the Apps, do I just plug the white USB cable into the other end of the "Y" cable while still leaving my iPod Touch in the Snap-In cradle? Or must I swap the iPhone into the cradle to get the apps to work (hope not as this will be annoying). In a nutshell, I want an iPod Touch with the better Apple iPod Out user interface always connected 24/7 to iDrive and I want to situationally connect my iPhone 4 hard-wired when I want to use Apps (Bluetooth obviously for phone calls). Thanks for any assistance... BJ |

I received my F0 328i a few days ago.
I didnt order extended blutooth, even through it was an option - however apparently because i ordered professional nav it came with it automatically Also, album art does work from the USB in the centre console - at least with my options. |

Bluetooth USB
Picked up my 2013 328xi 2 days ago. Took dealer and I to figure
Out the fOllOwing: 1. If you do not have BMW assist, you cannot use your iPhone As audio source. Ie you cannot listen to music from iPhone via Bluetooth. 2. White APple cable did not work either. 3. Dealer told me I need Y cable to hook up iPhone or iPod. 4. I was able to play music from USB stick when plugged into USB port in arm rest. Could not import musIc from here. 5. My car does have a USB port in glove box. Eureka ! I was able to import music into HD from this USB port. So all is well. The manual does not quite sPell it out like this. Hope this helPs those who have been trying to figure it out . |

There is a bug for sorting the musics from USB Memory stick in arm rest.
I have several albums (mp3 format) in the USB stick. when I plugged into the USB in arm rest, I go into the folders, select the album and see that all the tracks in the folder are randomly sorted even I have tried lots of combination for naming like: a.aakjsdjh b.laksjdlsdj .. 1.aslkdh 2.asjkd ... 01.asjdkh 02.skdj .. 101... 102... and goes on.. even I have modified the titles, track numbers of the songs but always the albums were sorted randomly... the correct sorting shown up only once when I updated the USB software from 0060 to 0075 version but when I stoped and run the car again, the sorting became random again.. 1. Playlists:Yes (Tricky?), Album art:No I suppose the trick is that here. Is there any body knows how the track list can be sorted correctly? |

With "new" nav I am able to see album art from iPod, USB, and internal hdd. No problem with that. By default all tracks are sorted correctly as well (at least for me). I am not sure, maybe there is a way to screw this up.

I have enchanged Bluetooth and no NAV
1) Apple cable to Iphone 4S from armrest - Everything cool + artwork works 2) But i can't play audio/music via bluetooth (Bluetooth Audio) So I suppose you need a BMW assist :-( , so dissapointing. |
