328i. No MORE!!
Hey Guys,
Happy New Year to all. I really just need a few things from you all. I need that BMW love guys. I bought one of the earliest F30 328i’s this year. I was reluctant not to get a 335 but was..ahem...influenced into the 4 cyl. It is a great 4 cyl, don’t get me wrong. It is QUICK for a 4 cyl. MPG is good I have put it up against E90 328i’s and beat them. I am in no way hating on the 328 nor its engine, it just is not for me. (she tried to change me, they always do haha) But....I miss that sound of a 6. I had a E90 330i which IMO sounded amazing due to the large intake that came on it. I bought the car hoping for BMW perf exhaust/pwr kit and now that I sit back and look at it I feel like that putting those on my car are just going to fail to satisfy my thirst for 6 cylinder sex sounds under the hood and out the exhaust. So, this weekend I am taking the plunge (again) and ordering a 335i. I think reading that 3 cyl motors will be replacing all cars below a 5 series in the future scares me even more so I just need to do this. I plan on buy the car and using it as a daily driver...then in a few years buying an m3/m5 (one step at a time) while keeping my 335 as a daily driver. I am def. getting a 6 speed manual, how do you like it if you have one? How is the clutch feel and what not. how does the ASS work with a manual? Also, I can’t decide between white, and mineral grey. BMW build your own tool doesn’t do it justice enough to decide, plus it would be nice to see both with some mods and tint (post pics plz) Also, I have watched about every F30 335 Exhaust video on youtube so if someone has one in the personal stash of vids post it here so I can make a decision on that. Maybe it is the quality of cameras people have been recording these vids with but the exhaust seems raspy and disappointing. Please tell me I am wrong! I am a huge BMW fan, I know way more than I should about BMW and their cars I have been a fan since I was 11. I am 23 now and have owned 4 BMWs in my life. Some may call me crazy, but they probably drive a honda. I just need to talk to other BMW lovers thats all.

dude 335 F30 exhaust sounds amazing. Pops and burbles alot, makes it sound like a super car .. thats probably the no1 reason why I went with the 35 over the 28.

For color choices, there's the official color threads in the photos forum. A lot of close up shots etc of both white and mineral grey, with all the mods/tints/lines you could want.
Alpine white: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...7#post10865387 Mineral Grey: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=615653 I personally got mineral grey, and LOVE it. In the daytime it's a shimmering grey, and at night it's almost black. |

6 speed manual is extremely smooth and easy to launch. Much smoother than my E46 M3 or even E46 325i. ASS works as it should with the manual, but I usually turn it off.

335 ticks all the boxes for me ...
6 cyl 6 speed (clutch work as it has always been in a bmw) sexy exhaust burble i got no issue with ASS, especially since i have it turned off completely (coded disabled) go for mineral grey... there are just too many damn white cars out there... it's so 2012! but then again, F30 looks good in white

I also love the sound of the 335 and the dual pipes out the back. The extra power is of course also nice.
Coming from a 6 speed manual 2008 335xi to a 2013 8 speed automatic 335 xdrive I like the ease and smoothness of the automatic but do miss the connection and precise control of the 6 speed manual. I miss not having to look at the display to know exactly what gear I am in.....I prefer knowing the exact gear I am in and gear I am going to based on where I shift the gear lever to. I think you are making the right choice sticking with the 6 speed manual since you seem inclined that way anyways |

So you change car every 18 months or so for things like, f.e., the engine noise? I guess you probably have to be millionaire, or EVP or CEO of an enterprise maybe?

very true, i cannot emphasize how good the 8 spd sport auto is. Its JUST like DCT and infact its the first thing you notice when you drive the car. The ZF8 makes the F30 feel really high tech..like next level ishhh

yeah, if engine sound is a big factor i recommend not going for the N20 engine. BMW did a little extra work on the N20 for the Z4 for sound ( I think the radio also plays an engine rev note too). But if you are tech savvy and want to say current then N20 is the future. Sorry to say it guys but get use to newer cars sounding terrible. Thats the sound of EFFICIENCY. Oh hell you could just go noiseless with Tesla.

The 6spd is as smooth as butter. ASS is a bit weird and alost makes you feel like you stall when you come to a stop and take your foot off the clutch. I would recommend not using ASS but everything else is as advertised and I wouldn't even consider the 8spd AT.

Ever since I saw this picture, I have been a massive fan of mineral gray. I love the way it reflects in the light, and it shows the lines of the car very well too. It is definitely what I would go with.

Mineral Grey was my first choice also but opted for something less 'obvious' (here in the UK 'every' car is black, grey, silver or white) and individual; Tanzanite Blue. MG still a good second choice and easier to keep clean then white or black I'd have thought.
