This is quite interesting. I was not aware of this. So what good is Manual Shift Mode if it shifts Automatically anyway?

Well, it's NOT a DSG nor a manual: it's a slushbox, a classic fluid-coupled automatic.

But it's one helluva AT. I don't know if you have it in your F10, but the ZF eight-speed is a great transmission. I love the way it works and seems to know what gear to be in no matter how I am driving.

In the ZSL F30 with 2TB, I don't know what the physical differences are -- BMW is largely silent on this point. I suspect it's not just software as you were speculating previously when the guy in Moscow thought he could simply replace the shifter, code 2TB into his VO and get 2TB running (without the paddle shifters).

In Sport with the shifter in the M/S position and DTC on or DSC off altogether (or in Sport+ mode, which turns on DTC), the thing shifts almost -- almost as fast as a DSG. Above 3K RPM, it also opens a wastegate in the exhaust and "blupbs" on shifts.

I confirmed that in this mode, it will not shift to a higher gear when you hit redline. However, because it's an AT, no matter what combination of settings you use, it will downshift to the next lower gear as soon as engine speed (I have the N55) falls below about 1200rpm.

I guess the answer to your question is that it's good for a lot of things: smooth, imperceptible shifts in Comfort mode; the sound-n-fury of the N55 in Sport mode; and a I-want-to-blow-the-engine-in-my-$50K-car mode in Sport+ (or equivalent).

My F10 535i M-Sport has the same N55 Engine and ZF8 Transmission as your 335i ZSL. I just don't have factory 2TB SAT. I did replace my Gear Shift with the SAT Gear Shift already, and I will replace the Steering Wheel with SAT Paddle one soon, but I am still not sure if then it is 100% 2TB, or if different ECU or Firmware is still needed.

I found it in almost the same place (see the screenshot) and I wonder if anyone has tried this and what your results have been. I'm using 48.3.

I am surprised at the number of choices available. This would use the cameras mounted under the side mirrors I suppose. But I wonder if these are sensitivity settings only or if there is actually some kind of pattern recognition in the image processing software.

If this works -- I haven't had time to code much lately -- it joins the list of coding changes titled, "Why Didn't BMW Ship the Car This Way?" right next to weather band, folding mirrors, FTM display of actual pressure/temperature and closing windows from the remote.
OK, so I tried this today.

It works in the F30 as shown in the screenshot I posted earlier.

But it's a little odd. As you can see from the attached photo, when you get a side warning, the actual warning is shown in iDrive as an imminent frontal obstacle.

It kinda makes sense if you think about it, but it can also be confusing -- your getting this warning and there could be nothing in front of you. :-)

This shot is inside my garage -- there is actually something in front of me. But I also have a wall next to me on the driver's side. You can test this out by driving through a drive-through lane, say an ATM, and coming close to the curb. Also, it's a little slow to register the side objects -- which is why I think BMW ships the cars with it off. Too much image processing from all sides for the under-powered processors in the car.

When will manufacturers learn that it's a fool's savings to match the chip to today's tasks?

It's cool. I am leaving it on.

Nice car.

The only way I can think of would be to set it to Sport+, put it in M/S and rev it to redline -- if it shifts after you VO 2TB, it's not the same thing as actually having 2TB.

I'd love to know how it works for you...paddles and the leather boot for $500? That's expensive.

Thanks.

It is much more than you think though. Besides the leather gaiter, the Gear Shift is quite different in shape, and the Park and Release Button are different. So, you must buy the whole Gear Shift, which is $850 new:

Here is my actual post detailing my swap:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=660759

And as for the Steering Wheel, the paddles cannot be bolted on to a regular wheel, as the back of the wheel has raised molded areas that the base of the paddles fit flush into. So, a whole new Steering Wheel must be bought, which is about $1,000 without the Airbag and front control panels for Cruise Control and Entertainment, which thankfully can be reused.

So, its $1,850 with new parts.

But now I am also in the middle of a 4U1 Ceramic Controls retrofit, and I already have the Ceramic Radio and AC Knobs, and the iDrive Controller, but now I will need to buy and replace my gear shift a second time with one that is both 2TB and 4U1, or just buy the ceramic face plate for the one I have.

But, I think the cermaic is worth it, and it will look damn good with my new European 6WB Instrument Cluster that just showed up...

Well, I knew the shifters were different -- it's how you can tell which AT the car came with (at least until coders start coding 2TB).

But that new dash! That's the balls.

Well you mentioned only the leather boot, so I was not sure if you knew the gear shift itself was different.

Yes, that is the new all digital 6WB Kombi, that changes with the DEC Switch Mode, so it has 3 different Displays for Normal (Comfort), Sport, and ECO. Here are pictures of them all:

Hi everyone,

I am very happy to show you the latest upgrade we did for one of our customers a few days ago.
We retrofitted the Multifunctional Instrument Panel in an F13 built when this cluster was not yet available.
Thank you Hung for choosing BimmerTech!

This retrofit can be done in the following models: F01, F02, F06, F10, F11, F12, F13.

I think it looks just great!!! How do you guys like it?

It's astonishing how it switches completely from one DEC mode to another. Wish it were a retrofit for the F30. I'd be tempted.

Does it require coding in the F10? You will have to VO code it, right? Is it plug-compatible with the normal cluster?

both VO 2TB for N8k and changing Sportschalter to aktiv for me had given us the same result. It doesn't upshift anymore Even though i didn't install 2TB gear shifter.

Well, if correct, it means that aside from the cosmetic differences, 2TB IS just software. Hmmm....

Yes. It is just a matter of adding 6WB to VO and the VO Coding Kombi and HU_CIC.

It is fully plug-n-play, and you can see from this 18 second video how the instrument cluster simply pops out of the dash with only two screwdrivers in a few seconds:

Since the car can't be Dealer programmed with 6WB installed, I will have to put back in the original Kombi from time to time, so it's nice that it is such little work.

Here is a nice short video clip of 6WB:

Do it! 6WB should be an available option on 2014 U.S. F10.

Yes, the 2014 should be the LCI version, and it should include 6WB as an option, and maybe even LED Headlights, and iDrive Touch Controller.
