I don't know about the BMW variant sportscar but I would bet money that Supra will be a GREAT car.

Have the forums become a personal thought journal? : I like that BMW is working outside the box. I say it's better to try it and pull the plug should it fail than to be reserved and miss a great opportunity. |

I like this. The R&D engineers on both sides must have seen developments they could benefit from. This could be very exciting. Perhaps there are technologies both companies are researching when only paired together, could lead to new innovations or breakthroughs. Everybody knows fast and energy efficient cars are the next big thing! Good for them to get a head start and share R&D

Whats wrong with this at all? Too many fanbois up in this mug.
Toyota has been supplying everyone with technology for the past i dont know how many years. There was a graph in automobile magazine that shows who supplies and works with what in the autoworld. Toyota is at the center for hybrid texhnology. Oh yeah, they also made the LFA and have lightweight technology. Have you guys seen the carbon fiber weave machine that was used in building the LFA? Toyota may have some crap cars in its lineup but ill take an LFA over any bmw any day of the week. With both companies' technological wizardry, WHY would this be a bad thing?? |

Haven't seen much out of Toyota since the days of the Supra, Celicas, and MR2's, since then, Toyota has largely catered to the masses via fuel efficient, and practical commuter cars, trucks, and high value full featured cars such as the Avalon. (Honda is similar). The FRS ushered in the return of the Japanese compact sports car - RWD, peppy engine, 50/50 weight distribution, love the idea and soul, but it's execution IMO is mixed. The engine is woefully underpowered and the interior feel, fit and finish clearly remind you of the class of car you're in. Overall - I am looking forward to the collaboration and hope new, innovative technologies will result and advance automotive engineering that result in meaningful improvements, without stripping either Companies heritage and brand.

Interesting to see if they release a Toyota or Lexus from this project. No particular reason to think it would be a Lexus, but it seems entirely possible.

This is a win win for all the teeners out there that like to rice up their bimmers.
For me, I hope BMW doesn't give on the German car feel. I dislike the "pingy" sound/feel I get when shutting the doors and driving most Japanese cars. BMW might be heavier, but it just feels better under my ass.

I worked at a Subaru dealership. Drove BRZs all day. Theyre cool cars and feel very nimble. I only drove on the streets so I can't really say how they perform as I didn't push the envelope. My biggest gripes were how slow the car felt and the weird seating position.
With that said, I hope they can combine some of Toyota's hybrid prowess and reliability with BMWs engines and comfort. I just hope this thing is fast. |

They will come out with an interesting product for sure. Just because Toyota's brand isn't as high end as BMW doesn't mean they don't have some seriously talented engineers. I'm actually more interested in what Toyota is going to do with this than BMW. Could you imagine a modernized Supra that actually lives up to the name? It could be amazing.

Seems to work for Lotus.
I drove MK-I MR2s for 25 years. Best car ever made (IMHO). Not that I'm complaining, because I love my Z4MR, but I've spent more time and money fixing the Z4 in 3 years than I did on the MR2s in 25 years. I really look forward to seeing what they come up with. If I don't like it, then my next car will be a Lotus.

If we're lucky, it could be a BMW badged FRS, BRZ!
we'll call it the DMZ3! First BMW to use a Boxer engine?! It'll be limited quantity only and availability will be based on a percentage of sales of the FRS? BMW, Make it happen! |

Toyota doesn't make water and fuel pumps. No car manufacturer does.
