435i M Sport, F32, 1st gear shifts at 6500rpm
Hi Guys,
Just purchased an M sport 435i and noticed that first gear always shifts at 6500 rpm (whether in comfort, sport or sport + mode, and whether in auto or manual shift mode) and then 7000rpm for the rest of the gears. Anyone know why that is? Thanks. |

Unless you are flooring it in Sport+ all the time, I say take it in to the dealership as soon as possible. Before you blow your engine. This is very abnormal behavior. Are you sure ... ALWAYS shifts at 6,500 and 7,000 RPM? |

Not always, only if I'm pushing it to redline, 1st gear doesn't reach 7000 rpm redline, always upshifts at 6500 rpm. Looks like they all do that, just found this YouTube video, car does the same thing, shifts at 6500rpm in first gear then 7000 the other gears:

Normal behaviour for seemingly all high performance autos. Due to WOT in 1st gear being rapid acceleration both in terms of vehicle velocity and engine speed, it will shift slightly short of the redline to protect itself from the resulting inertia that may over-rev and damage the engine.

Thing is the engine is losing power going all the way to red line. Manually shift at 5900/6000 in WOT

New 435i F32? Remind me to never buy a car from you. Always pushing it to redline on a new engine. Gulp. I'm following BMW's recommended break-in procedure with our new 335i.

Pat yourself on the back. Manufacturer's break-in guidelines are as meaningless as it gets. |

The reason is that in 1st and 2nd gear power and torque are slightly limited
In M you can go against the rev-limitator, over 7.000rpm, even in 1st gear, but after 6.500rpm the car sit down That's why in DS it changes 1-2 at 6.500, 2-3 at 6.700/6.800, and the following gear changes at 7.000 |

IMHO, this is absolutely false, but you are free to believe it' s a good thing to floor just out of the BMW dealer

Sorry guys, that's sounds strange to me, because N55 it's really "alive" at high revs, quite different from my old N54 (tuned...)! It gives the best in 5000/7000 rpm for me, expecially with MPPK: as a matter of fact, the manifacturer claims 335hp costant in the range 5.800-6.500rpm

But it would have been better to respect the break-in period for me |

+94,817. Especially German cars. And specifically BMW and ///M engines. If you ignore the break in recommendations, you are more likely run into "issues" down the road. Of course if you are leasing and plan on just returning the car at 30 or 40k miles, you are not likely to run into any of said issues at all. Btw, I think the poster Alpine435i is an older member here. Used to go by the name f32. I do not believe he is as new as his join date suggests. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

Thanks for the responses everyone, definitely respect the break in period, car has 4500kms on it, I've given it plenty of time to break in. Just thought it was really strange, this is my 4th BMW and never seen this before, my previous car was a Z4 35i and it didn't do it, possibly a difference between the N54 and N55 engines

Curious ... Does your MPE sound any better as of late, since it's had more time to break in?

If not, if you're doing this at WOT, that's normal. |
