F34 Coding anyone?
Hi all,
I was just curious if somebody here has started coding their F34. Any tips / suggestions are really appreciated... There is a whole thread about general f30 coding here: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696777 I really want to try to do it once my white 335 GT arrives in april. |

Any update on coding?
I have written to Mike B. to see if he has done any. It surprises me that the coding would not be the same as the F30...

Mike B
Hear back from Mike B today, he can code it. I need the new cable. I will get him to do it at the same time as he does some adjustments to my M3 if it is ever released by Canada Customs

My experience having my car coded remotely
I am not an advertiser for Mike B. This is my experience.
He coded my M3 when I was in Switzerland and he was in California (9 hours time difference so we did it late on a Saturday evening my time, Saturday morning his time). No matter how you do it, you need a cable that goes from the onboard computer to a USB port on a laptop (PC or a Mac running a windows emulator when I did it). Mike provided the software - in my case a very long download, but sometimes on a USB stick. Part of the s/w was "team viewer". Across my wifi network he used it to take control of my laptop (in my case an i3 machine that I rarely use). There he launched his coding s/W. We spoke over the phone (Skype) during the process to see how it was responding. Some of my mods were not usual as my car was Canadian spec and I needed to have the radio frequencies changed so that I could receive all european stations. In all it was painless and worked very well. I am ordering the F series cable and services today. PM me if you want Mike's contact details. |

Hi,
Any recommendations on coding help in getting US-spec GT to EU spec? Location southern corner of the Netherlands & Germany & Belgium areas nearby. Radio and Connected Drive aren't working and official BMW dealer refuses to do anything on those... |

I know that one of the options that Mike had was to completely recode the car as EU. That would delete side markers and changed the DVD coding too. It is worth your while to PM Mike. He did my car remotely (California to Switzerland!) |

There is a lot of information available on the parameters to change. But you need to find the E-SYS software, token and pin. In the alternative, an experienced coder can do it for you in about an hour.

Where abouts is the Combox in the F34, and how do I access it?

The coding is via the OBD port. The cable has an RJ45 jack on the other end (in E series it was USB) this then creates a network connection to your car. VMware Fusion can be used on the Mac. I keep a Windows laptop for coding and a few specific apps that are a lot better if run natively on a PC. My first coding was for safety reasons (ability to receive all FM frequencies in EU tunnels), since then it has been for the fun of having the car do a few things that the techs at my local BMW shop dreamt of but do not know how to do (or are not allowed to). |

Sorry Manchesterr, I was out all afternoon.
This is a rather odd youtube video - just a static image and some music - but it does show the general location on an LHD F 3x series The port has no cover (unlike previous models). It is on the outboard side of the steering wheel and is about an inch back from the facia. Best to use a torch to look around for it. The plug is common to all current vehicles, but in this case the interface is IP not serial. |

It flips open, leaving access to what looks like a scart lead style port. So, where to buy a cable from in Europe? Or what cable should I be looking to purchase? Sorry for all of the questions, but where is best to read up then on how to update / code my car? From this link - F20/22/30/31/32/33/34/36/80/82/83 Coding/Programming/Retrofit Options, I quite fancy adding the following:-

I saw in another thread it was saying you need the pin to use the software or some token that was 50 dollars plus the price of the cable at 20 quid starts bumping the price up
Can you get your current speed to display in the dash in digital form? (I miss that from my audi and golf) |
