Could you imagine if bmw just took a z3 m coupe, threw in a newer engine, dct, a better rear multi link and mildly updated the styling ? The enthusiast crowd would go nuts ! I know I'd be first in line

The actual car is too heavy and quite expensive.
The benefits from the joint will be seen for sure in a more dynamic version and maybe again in an M model as all the rivals have some top versions: SLK AMG, TT S and an RS will follow and the best in class Cayman Gt4! |

Do you mean Z4? The Z3 styling was, to say the least, bulbously ungainly. (And I had both.)

Have you even driven any of those cars you're ridiculing? I chose a 6er over the Panamera and as far as the SUV is concerned I couldn't make my mind up between the X6 and Cayenne. Went with the Cayenne in the end because 1. I never had a Porsche before and 2. I already had another BMW in the garage. Don't just start spewing bs and confusing people. FWIW I would pick the new X6M over my Cayenne turbo if it needed replacing.

Porsche builds the better performing car in each category. There are countless reasons people would choose to compromise on performance and choose something else. It's not like Porsche sells a million cars. But the reason I pointed out that the Porsche outperforms the BMW in each of those categories is that the initial post was about BMW answering the Cayman GT4, the best example of one of Porsche's true sports cars. A category that BMW has never created a single true contender. If Porsche builds higher performing (not better all around, necessarily) SUV's and sedans than BMW, what are the realistic odds of BMW taking it to one of the core Porsche sports cars? Again, just talking performance, not style (ack Panamera) or anything else, what part of what I said qualifies as BS? |

I worked at a porsche dealership. The X5 is more fun to drive than a Cayenne even with the Turbo S and steptronic (Cayennes do not get PDK)
now with the Cayman, that is a different story. And the Panamera does not compete with the 6GC, more so with the 5, the Cayenne with the x5, Macan (x3 maybe x4) and the Macan smokes it. Last edited by neliconcept; 02-18-2015 at 11:19 AM.. |

Looks like a mustang. Guess American automakers are tying to look like European ones, and European automakers are trying to look like American ones.

E85 Z4 M Roadster owner here.
Currently my next car wish-list is either a Cayman or 2nd hand 997 Carrera S. Give me a new Z3 M Coupe so I don't need to defect!!! |

I find it humorous some of these replies regarding who/what BMW "cares" for, or caters to.
If anyone believes BMW, which is a publicly owned company, has any certain feeling toward anyone in particular, you have much more to learn than I can comment on. Evolution, advancement, regulatory requirements, etc.. With attempt to keep production cost as reasonable as possible, while still being considered luxury, and not become too cost evasive to end consumer. So if you think BMW (again a company) has a motive to manufacture vehicles with an agenda of only gaining new customers, without concern or contemplation over what existing customers will think/want (and they do frequent these very forums), then I would simply avoid the vehicles/company in general. So.... They really want to add another model to compete with the AMG gt in retaliation for the new GLE? Maybe they will give it gull wing doors and start making commercials with comparisons to the 911. I'm all for it

"Amateur sketch but it shows the direction for Z5 Coupe or Z6." I'm curious is to how an amateur could possibly render a concept of the direction for the next ZER.
