xDrive Working Wonderfully As Always
Enjoying my 328 xDrive in our snow and subzero temps this week...I just need another 6 inches of ground clearance.

AWD + winter tire combo for me is killing it, and I'm loving it! I had about 12" of snow behind my garage, and my car plowed right through it. Got through my unplowed apartment complex and onto the semi-plowed main roads.

I'm just running the stock Conti SSR and it's doing fine now that the deep stuff is pushed aside (Though I put winter tires on my e92 328 xdrive). We had 14 inches of snow this week (Kentucky)...all in one night. Negative 10 degrees forecast tonight, so the car is getting garaged for now! Got a 76 International Scout for that.

Tires given you traction. xDrive puts power to 4 wheels.
Without traction, the quantity of power to wheels is useless. xDrive can certainly add value, but if you wanted to make the most of your dollar, investing in snow tires is much more effective than going for xDrive with all seasons. |

I watched my friend spin the rear tires (with new Blizzaks all the way around) in the winter of 2010 in DC on his E46 M3, while me and my crappy all seasons (with 30K miles on them) on my 2006 X3 had zero issues...granted I had more clearance, but it really wasn't an issue that day. I got out, he needed a push. Just say'n..... BUT, I'd rather have winter tires and xDrive any day!

Seems more effective to wrap snows on AWD. OP, if I need 10" of clearance (you said 6" more LOL) then I am just staying home.

The BMW Xdrive system is one the most advance AWD system in the market and absolutely necessary in the East Coast more especifically if that is your DD. I'm hoping that BMW builds an xDrive M car then I would consider buying one.

I refuse to pay $1000 on snow tires for an AWD car that I'm leasing for 3 years or possibly less. I'm planning on my next car being RWD with summer's. I will spend the extra money for snow's on that.

Those of us, and myself that are moving to areas like Pittsburgh need xDrive with our winter tires to get up extreme grades..
