interesting. I thought it was washer fluid.....thats why I asked. Like rain x, it probably only works on new unpitted windshields?

It worked pretty well on the pitted glass of my E90. The trick is to clean the glass really well and then wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol and really get the pits as clean as you can. Obviously works better on non-pitted glass

Translation: "Having no choice" but to use BMW washer fluid really means Rain X doesn't work properly.

That's exactly what Rain-X does. However, it's life expectancy is inversely proportional to how much you use your wipers. If you "overuse" your wipers with Rain-X it will wear off. That said, I'm always up for trying something new. I've never heard of Aquapel before now...

Aquapel is good shit. It just takes a lot of elbow grease to "remove" the excess completely.

How does that work?
It chemically bonds to the windshield and lasts up to 6 months. About $9 USD per application.

I used nanolex on all my glass and works a charm, similar to the aquapel. However due to the glass coating I'm finding that my car gets uncomfortably hot and I'm guessing it's kind of like a greenhouse effect? (I'm putting it down to this as I cannot find any other reason I can think of)

Anyone else finding their car gets hotter than normal after using glass coating or similar on all their windows?

I use the $1.79/gallon blue stuff from Wal-mart (rated to -20F) here in Colorado and it works like a champ. Why are some people spending so much money on washer fluid?

I don't pay anything. Park Ave BMW provides free fill ups.

Exactly. Cheap blue to-20F works great here in CO.

I have actually had a negative affect using the BMW fluid. Just recently I had symptoms of the pump running but no fluid would dispense. After some research I found that it is a common issue of the reservoir "strainer" becoming clogged. My SA advised it was algae build up from using non BMW fluid as the BMW fluid has additives to prevent this algae. I have had nothing but BMW fluid in my car. He said it's common when fluid sits dormant as in my case. It's very slim I will use fluid to clean my window as I keep my car clean on a weekly basis.

They refused to fix the $4 strainer under warranty although it is a common problem even though they claimed they properly diagnosed the problem. They wanted to charge me $285 to fix it. After a lot of complaining and a week later they decided to have the car back in for further investigation.

I brought the car home the same night and fixed the problem in 45 minutes. There were no signs that the car was previously taken apart so they had not properly diagnosed the problem and based there diagnoses off tribal knowledge.

The result was a gel build up which reeked very much like BMW fluid. Oddly enough the gel substance had turned blue although the fluid is green. Also seen is the residual fluid had also turned slightly blue

Amazing how BMW has a sensor that is sensitive enough to not detect other liquids.

I have been using Rain X for many years in other vehicles just because why not. Now I use BMW fluid in my F30 and I don't miss Rain X at all. It really doesn't make a whole lot of difference in my experience.

A couple of days ago snow was blocking my windshield fluid outlet and when I sprayed some it looked blue on the snow, just like what that gel looks like. This is BMW fluid.

Soap can leave streaks, use vinegar instead. But not Balsamic.

I wouldn't suggest using vinegar. Although when greatly diluted, vinegar is very acidic. It's a great cleaning agent when wiped clean but not left sitting on your paint.

I posted on page 1 that I have a full gallon of Rain-X in my tank and haven't seen any warnings about fluid level. And of course I went out that very day and got the warning.

I have to say, Rain-X does a better job keeping the glass clean when there's salt spray from wet roads. Much less streaking. I'll try the RainX-regular stuff mix to see if that works better.
