Base price
335xi (45750)
340xi (47800)

Premium: was 2200, but leather now is standalone 1450. So if you get leather you are pretty much back at the old price (47200). But you also get Sport and the Sport automatic standard another (1700 + 500) = 2200 value increase. So [335xi + Premium + Sport] was more expensive than [340xi + Leather]. And if you don't care for leather you save quite a bit, but also lose the leather.

It also loses some options, like the standalone High-beams (250), for which you now have to shell out 800 in the lighting package (which also gets you adaptive headlights).

[335xi + Premium + Sport] = 49650 equipment wise seems similar to [340xi + Leather + Lighting] = 50050. So there it's an increase.

You also can't get the DNH (1000) option anymore but have to go to the track package (1700), which gets you the m-brakes additionally (used to be 650). So that's roughly equivalent.

The tech package dropped ~400 in price.

tl;dr I'm keeping with my 335xi/Sport/Leather/dnh ED order.
HK is now included with the 340 as well.

It changes the shocks, but not the ride height, if that's what you're asking about.
That just doesn't make sense. I understand BMW's logic regarding having higher ride height for AWD vehicles... but if someone is ordering the Track Pack.... Oh well. That rules out xDrive for me. Thanks!

Right we need to add HK (875) and High Beam (250) for an apple-to-apple comparison:

[335xi + Premium + Sport + HK + High Beam ] = 50775
[340xi + Leather + Lighting] = 50050.

So a decrease - still missing option 840 though

Last year I drove both 2VF and standard xDrive F30s back to back. And let me tell you: adaptive suspension on xDrive is far from useless. On the contrary, it is an absolute must if you're buying xDrive and want a car with decent handling. Later you can add Dinanware to make it even better.

Since you've driven them all.. How would you rate 704, 2VF, and 2VF xDrive in order of fun / what you'd want to live with?

Yes, sorry, you're right. 2VF can be added to a ZMP car as a standalone option, or it can be had as a part of ZTR.

I only drove a 704-equipped F33, never an F30 (dealers here just don't order them), so there's a bit of a difference with the chassis setup, of course. With that in mind:

- Standard xDrive - useless POS from an enthusiast standpoint, but really popular in Boston among those who want the roundel on the hood and the pretense of extra winter safety (which means about 90% of cars sold here are like that).
- 2VF xDrive - you can feel the extra height and extra suspension travel, but in Sport or Sport+ the car is much more responsive, you get good roadfeel, and it's something that can be enjoyed on the street. It would certainly be lacking in a proper sport situation like auto-x or track.
- 2VF RWD - not much to say. It just does everything well.
- 704 RWD F33 - you can clearly feel where the comfort/sport balance is. If the roads in your area are not perfect, you should think hard whether this is something you'd like to live with. Plenty of people like that kind of setup or would even say it's still too soft (for example, my wife is much happier with coilovers on her E82 than she was with the OEM sport suspension, even though she has to drive around every bump or manhole cover), but it's definitely not for everyone.

Personally, I'd be choosing between 704 and 2VF RWD (maybe get extended test drives before making the decision), but since I'm in the market for a Touring, I don't have that choice. BMW is basically making me spend extra $3K (xDrive + 2VF) I wouldn't spend otherwise.

Yeah. I agree. I find this very frustrating. You would think a track handling package would give you the most optimal suspension for that sort of driving.

Thank you very much. I had the straight sport suspension on my E90... but made the mistake of not researching more on the F30 to know the base suspension on xDrive sucks. It doesn't even drive like a BMW to me.
Thanks again

I'm giving this comment the strongest +1 possible! The adaptive suspension may be missing the aesthetics of lower ride height but being able to firm the suspension on an xDrive vehicle drastically improves the body roll and ride. And as stated, you can add the Dinan Shockware software for the adaptive suspension to further improve firmness and once you add lowering springs you're all set!!

Another couple things I noticed:
They appear to have removed the retractable headlight washers from the Cold Weather Package.
It appears you can no longer order the leather dashboard as it was on the 2015 ordering guide as a Priority 1 option but is not on the 2016 ordering guide.

Looks like that's not necessary in Europe with the LED headlights, so I'd presume they removed that option all-together?

Did you notice that ZPP doesn't get you leather anymore but requires to shell out another 1450?

ZPP's price is also reduced to reflect leather being removed from the package.

Old ZPP (for 328): 3100
New ZPP + Leather (for 328): 2450 + 1450 = 3900

Quite an increase. I guess we are going to see a lot more Leatherette as a result.

For 340xi there is at least one more difference: the sport automatic used to be $500 extra and is now included.

I bet some will think it's a 4 litre V8 underneath when they see the 340i around here.

The issue is that I don't need the other packages nor will I order it. So 2VF is out of the question for me. I appreciate the feedback. Last winter set me back with RWD hence looking at AWD. One of my buddies have a 435xdrive and was able to get around last winter in LI. My other option is order RWD and slap on winter tires...hmmm. I predict that the future winters in NYC will only get harsher.

You don't need AWD if you have good winter tires.

I agree that my RWD 335i with Michelin Alpins cuts through the snow well, but there times when you come to a stop or park on an incline and you need a push to get out, that's happened to me a few times.
