Passenger wing mirror drop when reversing?
Reading the manual for my 335dx, it says that if the wing mirror switch is set to the driver's side then when reverse gear is engaged the passenger mirror drops down slightly in order to view kerbs etc more easily.
This does not seem to happen on mine at all, do I need to have selected folding mirrors or some other option when speccing the car? I would have thought they would all be capable of this as it just requires the mirror glass to tilt down slightly which can be done entirely via the standard mirror motors with or without the external housing being able to be folded electrically or not. Perhaps I am missing something obvious. |

The dipping mirror will only work if the car has either folding mirrors or electric seats as an option.

That's annoying, especially as the function does not actually require any of the features present in folding mirrors or electric seats, it just needs to drop the mirror down temporarily like you do when you move it with the standard adjustment motor.

So, quite likely a memory module is part of these option packs.

The dipping feature is very handy when parking (to protect from kerbing your nearside alloys), and don't understand why both mirrors don't dip, and/or you have a switch that enables/disables the automatic dip function (i.e. If you were reversing but not parking).

Especially as the car doesn't like you reversing with the drivers door open... Also, it would aid getting lined up for reversing OCD centrally into a parking bay...

Still agree that it's a con that it's not included irrespective of folding mirrors/elec memory seats |

What is a con is that folding mirrors are not standard on a BMW. A large number of cars these are included in the stock spec. Just another example of BMW parting us fools from our money.. |

Does anyone not feel that the mirror dips just a little too much? I think it goes to too steep an angle and if you're trying to line something up further behind the car then I have to flick it it to passenger side.

I wonder if there's some parameter that can be coded to change that?

Admittedly the xdrive helps as you are so much higher to start with However, the angle of dip is a pain in some situations and have to manuall dip or raise it. |
