Car Hire USA... Mustang or Camaro?!
We are off to a wedding in South Carolina next year and need to sort out car hire for a week whilst we are there. As we are being put up for a week we can afford to go for something a little more interesting on the car front... so thinking it would be rude not to go for something very American!
Mustang is the obvious choice, but nothing I can see on the websites tells me whether it's the V8 one or the smaller engined Ecoboost one, but I've seen the option to book a Chevrolet Camaro V8... Thoughts and opinions welcome from anyone whose driven them or can give me some hints and tips on how to book a car for reasonable cost, or how to ensure one gets exactly the car they want... too many say Car x or similar for my liking!

Use the Hertz Adrenaline collection. The only way to guarantee a 'quick' version. I've had both Mustang GT and Camaro SS V8. Both nice cars and split opinion. I doubt you'll be sad with either, as long as you get the 'full fat' one :-)

Oh, and if the websites don't say a version, it'll be the small one. And watch for people who have 'or equivalent' in the small print. Hertz are one company who guarantee the exact car.

We have used both Hertz and Avis for normal cars in US and Avis offered a better service!

Well, just looked at both Hertz and Avis, and Hertz website says that there is no availability out of Atlanta airport for any of the sexy cars I'd consider, but the Avis one gives me the option of a Camaro SS(explicitly states the V8 engine), for about £500 for 9 days hire, which I don't think it too bad.

Yep, that's about the going rate. I had an SS 'vert this year, and a coupe last year. Loved both, but the coupe doesn't have a huge amount of headroom. New Camaro out soon, so you might get that :-)

So which would you prefer... Mustang or Camaro?

If it was MY15 for both, Mustang by a long way. If it's a MY16, it'll be a close run thing. But, you'll probably struggle to find out from any car hire company, so if you can find a Mustang GT, grab it with both hands! As I said at the start, you'll not be disappointed with either though :-)

So, slower and uses buckets of fuel. So, yes, needs to be v8! The flip side is that if you do get a v6 at least it won't help convince you to price one up to buy over here! I think the euro spec ones do have a better interior than the us spec. |

Consider using Sixt as well.
It's worth dropping the car hire firm you choose and make sure you explicitly say what you want. The Mustang needs to be V8 and imagine that is what they will stock. Googled this link. http://www.mustang-hire.com/Atlanta.aspx The link above just amalgamates car hire searches. Also consider posting in the main or Atlanta (State) part of the forum Last edited by ....,,,,..,,..; 12-26-2015 at 04:15 AM.. |

Use a search engine for car hire
Used one about 4 years age as we were revisiting Hawaii and wanted a convertible. Think we ended up using Budget as they only had Mustangs as convertibles. Car was a straight six though not the v8. Great cruiser but definitely not something that could be thrown about. Tbh it's more about cruising there as the roads are better suited and people are generally more tolerant and laid back on the roads. No idiotic tailgating horn blowing etc Think we paid about £400 with insurances for a fortnight was cheaper to purchase all the extras on line prior to travel. Enjoy the road trip.

My mate ordered a Dodge Viper earlier this year for his trip to California when he was on honeymoon, he was more excited about this than getting married, when he got there to pick it up it'd been wrapped round a tree, how we laughed......
Anyway, personally I'd go mustang as long as it had a bit of poke. |
