Not news to you but it is to me. I may never have found out until it's too late if the op hadn't posted this thread. I mean why would I search for something I didn't know about?

Thanks for the heads up op

I just found out today also, just getting back into a BMW and was not aware it would not transfer. I had heard they shortened the period on it but was not really tuned in. Pretty crazy though since I thought that was a pretty big selling feature they were leading with for a while.

It will transfer with a lease assumption.

So let's just have a forum full of constantly repeated posts, so it becomes so cumbersome to find anything here that it becomes totally worthless? If that's what you want this forum to be....

You may not know to search, but you didn't start the thread. OP can search, see that there are various (numerous?) threads on the topic, and bump one with a new comment. Then you see it too.

You are in the UK anyway. The rules governing maintenance aren't the same worldwide--so you still have some searching to do.

A bit harsh.

No it's definately not what I want (lots of repeated threads), I didn't say that. However there are lots of repeated threads on this and just about every forum I'm a member of but I still think these forums remain useful in spite of this.

Sorry if I upset you, it wasn't my intension to do so

I spoke with BMW FS and a local dealer that cleared that up for me. It makes sense though since they want to get their cars back in good working order.

Are you 100%, unequivocally certain of this? Have you been given anything in writing that confirms this? Or had first hand experience with an assumption? I wouldn't trust anything a dealer simply told me. Accurate information is not their primary objective. I would only trust a BMWFS phone representative slightly more.

I say this because, unless you've been provided something in writing, the only written policy published by BMWNA states that, without exception, the sole circumstance in which the maintenance plan is transferable is from one family member to another within the same household.

Unless he pointed you to a written policy that says that, I would not believe it. BMW gets the cars back in good working order off lease, one way or another--and the "another" is whacking the lessee for all sorts of exorbitant fees and charges (ie--lots of profit) for excessive wear if the lessee didn't properly maintain the car. BMW has no financial incentive whatsoever to cut a lease transferee a better break than a second buyer.

The difference with a lease transfer is that it's a transfer of an existing contract, not a new contract. It's plausible that this might be true because of that fact. Leases in general are owned by the bank (BMWFS), so technically there is no transfer of ownership with a lease transfer.

I'm in the same camp regarding the delivery of hearsay as fact, but in this case it does sound somewhat believable.

It has already been stated in the past that lease transfers don't get the maintenance plan. Straight from BMW NA... http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ceprogram.aspx

Quote:
These maintenance programs are available to the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico). Coverage is not transferable to subsequent purchasers, owners, or lessees.
